pecanpie said: and what i get out of this is an OP who is mocking me and the mod sees no harm in it.
i mean why else would a repost of the deals have my name in it.
Haven't been around for the last several days, so this whole issue is new to me. At first glance, I don't know if it's mocking or simply trying to do a favor. I do agree that a "best of" list or a "consolidating deals already posted" thread is a repost, though.

qcumber said: ...similar list here...Try to keep in mind outside of the cookies, I didn't really say one way or the other how I feel about any of the items in my list of takeaways. Here's my take on your list based on my personal opinion (or understanding of the rules, whichever applies):

1) Should be a repost.

2) Would be a repost if you simply went down a laundry list and made individual posts, or you were already the OP and just postmongering. The idea being you can split off or highlight a great deal out of a "OMG huge sale at Amazon on Stuff!" master cut-n-paste of some giant spreadsheet of price drops. This prevents people from jamming the HD forum with a circular then claiming repost on any deal that happens along, even if it' more detailed and promotes a better awareness.

3) Sure. Why wouldn't the community have a say in what is and isn't valuable? That doesn't mean pecan did something wrong, or that the posts were somehow without any value. It does mean a great number of people disagreed with the manner it was disseminated. The problem seems to stem more from the comments and attacks which came with the votes, which weren't necessary.

4-5) Not every policy we have for managing the forums is written in stone, or anywhere. Judgment calls are made on a regular basis, and are done more in a spirit than based on some binding letter-of-the-law procedure. I think the best thing we could do for our FAQ's is to place this in bold headlines near the top:

We can and will change our minds or make exceptions.

You can write that one down now, though, because it's going to continue to happen. Forever and ever.

...and ever.

To the rest of us, having pecanpie's name mentioned in the OP of the consolidated thread doesn't add or subtract any value to the deal. But if pecan takes offense to that, then why not simply remove her name from the OP? I don't see this as being any different from a post written in code to personally attack another member.

Aren't there more civil ways than letting a mob decide on what's valuable for the community? People don't realize that things like the leaderboard, red/green voting, post counts, trophies, etc. are really double-edged swords that encourage the cutthroat environment in the deals forums. Imagine if consolidated threads were enforced as a repost because it was described as part of the definition of a repost in the FAQ, then we could have avoided this mess. Isn't that more useful than just stating in an FAQ that you operate on a whim? We both agree it's a repost but the Muffin mod does not and there's the lack of consistency because like you said nothing is written down anywhere. The consequence is that this same mess will happen again in some form or another with different people forever and ever until a change is made. Hear me now, believe me later.

I knew it would take a while to get the few stalkers from leaving red on all my posts, but I didn't realize that fatwallet staff would allow me to be humiliated further for no reason. I take that op's message personal. it makes it look like I did something wrong so he had to repost it. all I wanted was my name removed from the op. it does not add to the deal and has nothing to do with the deal. kind of doubt it would have gotten that much green without my name attached.

veg: I really don't think that was the intention of the OP. Feel free to PM if there's something more to this that I'm not seeing.

Q: Is it possible the mention was a credit, rather than a jab?

Re: the other stuff, more when I can think clearly tomorrow night. Burned out sick, end of shift, all that.

I think DevilMonkey has contracted rabies. How else could it be explained that he's gone to the dark side?

KayK said: DevilMonkey said: veg: I really don't think that was the intention of the OP.You're kidding me.. right?

No, I'm not. I'm not sure how "I'm consolidating these threads" automatically means "pecanpie has no value." Really. Doesn't mean I can't be convinced, but the OP's comment in that thread alone isn't enough to convince me that's the subtext.

You remember that really long thread full of drama over a burger with mayo on it from Burger King????? That is what this thread makes me think of.

Pecanpie is right. No one should be able to post her name in a deal thread if she feels it's a personal attack.

In order to get into the more "robust" search, I put gibberish into the title search so that it will error, and get me to the "forums search" with all the options. The robust one.

If you click on "edit" on the forum sub navigation bar, you can grab forum search, and drop that search into your custom sub navigation.

I followed your "directions" exactly, and now my everything is in Russian. Thanks for nothing.
I just want to say I simply looooooove your avatar.

Oddly enough this reminds of the Digg rebellion against their most prolific front page contributor, Mr. Babyman. While he has a TON of friends and posts fantastic, front-page worthy articles, there is a huge following of people who harass him, dig/bury him down, do everything possible to cause trouble whenever he submits anything.

His solution is just to not post as often, and it's happening less and less. The mob mentality is unfortunately very difficult to overcome. People like him have helped Digg become what it is today, but that doesn't seem to matter any longer. I think a large part of that is due to jealousy as well.

I don't believe jealousy is the issue here.
