who else here hides food? i have a small refrigerator in my office so my son won't consume my drinks, and if i buy something for dh's lunch, i sometimes strategically place it so that it can't be seen in the frig/cupboard, but i don't keep food in other rooms of the house or anything.

i put a can of soda in the back of the refrigerator. as long as it's below eye level, my dad won't see it.

are you making fun of me?

I do, but only because if I leave something open on the counter, the cat will eat it.

Don't answer that, she will punch you in the kneecaps!

I drink my beer really cold. That way my body uses more energy heating it up. So for me, light beer means a frosty mug.

I used Atkins to jump start my diet. After 10 days I had lost 15 pounds. I then transferred to the weight watchers program, with some exercise, I was able to lose about 35 to 45 pounds.

Now I just eat sensibly.

atkins works, if you eat "lean" meat. back in 2003 there was an explosion of low carb products on the market, now not many.

I have never hidden food from my children, but I was tempted during my son's teenage years - it was difficult to keep the pantry and the fridge stocked during those years. Just when I thought I was done with having to keep up with a ravenous teenager's appetite my dd turned 13 - she is beginning to be "hungry all the time"

I will sometimes put larger stashes of snacks in the guest room (like when the girl scout cookies come in if I ordered 10 or 15 boxes, which I freeze eventually becauase frozen thin mints are way better than room temperature thin mints), or like the crackers from Amazon or something, just because of not having cabinet space. Otherwise, whatever food is here, I share. BUT, I don't have a son with a hollow leg or a house full of teenagers who think a weeks worth of groceries = a decent late night snack. This thread is funny! Here's another golden-oldie thread on a similar topic! I think I'll go read it for the memories!!

My youngest brother did Atkins a few years ago. He loves it - all meat and no produce, which is his preferred diet. His wife was unhappy over the way it exploded their grocery budget, though. He lost about 25 lb and got to goal, but since then has gained part of it back. As a kid, he was thin always and could eat anything. I have always struggled with weight and my brothers always knew it was a sensitive subject with me and made the best of it. Now they all have weight issues and I was close to goal weight in 2007 but have slipped since then. argh. The neverending quest, I tells ya.

lol what are your favorite snacks to tide you over

c7, how many pounds are you looking to lose? If it's more than 20lbs, you should go on a diet that doesn't restrict your food type, or I guarantee... every pound will come right back after you stop.

I lost about 25 lbs on atkins. I have basically used a lower carb diet for years because I feel better when I dont eat a bunch of carbs. Lately we have been following a low glycemic diet and have much more variety and find it easier to do. We eat around 200 carbs a day now and lose weight or maintain at that. I went from a size 14 to an 8 now and my husband went from a 40w to a 36w.

Just an extra 200 calories a day -- that's just 30 minutes of moderately vigorous activity or 60 minutes of easy exercise, can cause a loss of a pound every three weeks, with no bad effects.

ZenNUTS said:There's a repected study recently, along with many other studies in the past that shows Atkins works, actually better than other popular diets.

Keep in mind, the anti-Atkins sites are mostly from PETA supported sites. They went even as far as forming two fake "physican" group and released "findings".

I would also like to see the long term effect of all popular diet schemes, but be aware of the agenda from nut cases group when you read stuff on the net.
Study says Atkins and other diets result in similar weight loss after one year

Most anti-Atkins critics are citing evidence.

I've had a good deal of experience with these different low-carb diets. At the risk of exposing myself as a health geek, here's what I know:

Used to work for one of the major diet companies. Atkins was quite fat and unhealthy when he died, which was a bit of a scandal. And many people have gotten sick from ketosis, resulting from insufficient carbohydrates for nutrition. Losing and gaining weight in a yo-yo style can make it harder to lose weight long term. All that said - Atkins can help you get skinny in the short term, which is good enough for a lot of folks.

I've seen better long term results with the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, Sonoma Diet, raw food vegan "Sunfood" diet, and moderate healthy diet plan followed under some professional guidance.
