DO NOT follow the adkins diet. I am in the middle of something at work right now, but I will PM you in a couple hours. Yes, you will lose weight but it is extremely bad for you. |

Hubby is losing just about a pound a day!!! That seems way too fast to me. Unhealthy?? I'm not weighing, I just want to see how my clothes fit. And if my face begins to look thinner. |

Actually, that was two days ago, my grand finale (including coconut cake) before starting the Atkins program. I only started yesterday. Today is day two. |

I went to the supermarket today, and I bought: eggs, chicken, pork chops, cottage cheese cheddar cheese colby jack cheese broccoli crowns fresh spinach avocado I've been looking over the book, and it does seem to be rich in "superfoods," which I've always thought were a good idea! |

Soon you will be able to eat moderate amounts of whole grain carbs. NO! NO! NO! This is all bad advice if you are looking to lose weight the healthy way. Human bodies were not made to consume and digest high levels of protein like this. This puts your organs under extreme stress. Eat a balanced diet and exercise. If you are a person that never exercises, just start with a walk once a day. You will be amazed at what a 30 minute brisk daily walk with the right diet will do to your waistline. The trick is, you have to do it for more than 3 days. Try it for 30 and then let us know the results. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Cut out the crap. If you eat crap you are going to be fat. Period. Also, a salad with ranch dressing is not healthy. Cut out the bottled processed sauces and dressings. In fact, try to cut out anything processed. Eat natural and from the Earth. |

Thanks, Jackie! I have always agreed with you. But hubby wants me to try this! So, I agreed. I'm giving it one month. I figure it will "kickstart" me into a good committment to diet/exercise and then I can continue--only doing my own thing. I've been successful with my own thing in the past, which is very similar to your thing. It seemed really weird at the store today to be bypassing the fresh fruits/most of the veggies. And I have a freezer full of carbs that I'm avoiding. Bread, bagels, wrap sandwiches (got a deal on Digornio flatbread sandwiches, 50-cents each after instant rebates/coupons, usually sell for $3.50.), and more. We are exercising, via walking and a gym membership. And hubs does karate. |

I can't believe I forgot to add WATER. Drink water, lots of it. You need to flush out all the bad stuff. Replacing everything else you drink with water will make you drop weight so fast you'll freak. Add lemon for extra benefits. Don't drink coffee either. If you enjoy a cup of coffee once in a while that's fine but don't use it to "wake up" or make it a daily habit in the mornings. |

Watch out for dehydration which can put a lot of stress on your heart, kidney pain or stones, dark circles under your eyes (sometimes caused by undigested proteins), bad breath, sluggishness - just to name a few. These are all good indicators that your body has had enough. |

I think the OP's plan here is sound. Basically a wild jump-start followed by responsible nutrition. I hope it works. Good luck! Edit:sorry about other reference

I'm not saying it's right, I just don't see ANY references offered by pro-Atkins people here, yet I've provided a list of over 200 articles from peer-reviewed medical journals, in case anyone's interested.

If you ate only chocolate you would lose weight too. Not eating one of the four food types is all you have to do basically. |

After that, try to lose weight no faster than a pound a week or you'll lose mass from the muscle and internal organs. |
