I have my Mom, her sister, brother, brother # 2 (+ wife), her cousin brother # 1, cousin brother # 2 (+ wife), cousin sister all on facebook.. and they're friends with me (well.. there's no benefit for them being friends with me.. since i have restricted rights on them and they basically cant see anything except my status updates... and some photos that i decide to share with them specifically) Age range is from late 30's to early 50's.

someday you will no longer have your parents around, and you'll WISH they could be your facebook friend.
Word. To my mother.
and then your Dad will remarry and the new lady of his life will repeatedly send you friend requests and ask you to join social networking sites even though you have repeatedly told her you have no interest in these sites (and even if you did you probably wouldn't friend her).
My Dad turns 81 this month and just opened a facebook account.

If one has minor children using Facebook or MySpace, I think the parent should be on there to monitor the child's activities. Luckily my daughter is only 2, so I don't have to worry about this for a while. FWIW, I don't have an account on either of those sites.
Why does there have to be any stipulation regarding age for holding a facebook account? Sounds like age discrimination to me. As long as they're not soliciting underage people, no one is too old to be on facebook. Besides...

I'm older, have a facebook account and most of the time haven't a clue what the younger people are saying. Just don't friend your mom and you'll both be happier.
Wife and kids are on facebook. Old man Sanjoelo doesn't bother.

My daughter designed and set up my Myspace account, gave me the name (Your Very Own Myspace Mommy), and managed the account for me for years. I just learned how to do it myself in the last year or so. Then she nagged me to join Facebook, so I finally did. She makes all her really good friends add me, and they message me regular. I think kids shouldn't be on any social network sites without their parents until they are 18, then they should be able to delete or keep the parents as friends. If my kids deleted me I wouldn't really have any reason to be on either site.
I'm 48 and a FB'er. I have tons of friends my age...and older who are FB'ers. The oldest one I know of is about 70. The youngest friend is about 19. I love FB. I have reconnected with many friends I went to school/church with + teachers, etc. Love it.

I could see if you are a teenager not wanting your mom on your fb but someone your age shouldn't have a problem with it unless you don't get along?
My whole family (scattered across the country) communicates via fb. I would love to have my mom well enough to be on the internet. You are lucky that yours is.

I get along fine with my mom, and she emails me pretty much daily. But I'll sometimes put off-color comments in my status, or use my blog to vent about stuff in my life that I don't feel all that comfortable having her read.

My dad is my friend on facebook... this is how I discovered that I was concieved in Chicago... after I took some stupid astrology quiz and it mentioned date of conception, and my dad decided to confirm and give details.... ARGH!!!! My sister is on there too, so she had my back when I announced that my sister and I were both cabbage patch kids, and no sex ever occurred between those people claiming to be our parents... Luckily mom isn't technically savvy enough to have a facebook...
Oh, and I am 35, and my son is 8, so he has a few more years yet...
I'm 33 my mom is 55. I hate that she is on facebook. She has no sense of how it works. Things like announcing the birth of my cousins kid on facebook before the parents could tell their siblings so that one of my cousins found out about her nephews birth through facebook. She tried to friend my boyfriend long before meeting him. Ugh I hate it.
