WOW....What are we coming to as a free society living without fear???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Army: 12 die in dual shootings at Fort Hood, Texas

link to the story Ft Hood

I was stationed here for a year, my thoughts and prayers for the family of the dead and wounded

The guy was a MAJOR?

Obviously, our Military_ should not have weapons.

I heard on the radio the major's name is something like Hussein or Hassan?

Major Malik Nadal Hasan killed 12 of his own fellow soldiers in cold blood and wounded 31 others.

Why would an officer in the United States Armed Forces gun down his own people? It just makes no sense.

There is talk that multiple shooters were involved. While absolutely horrible, my mind can kind of wrap around the idea that for whatever reason the major just lost it and went nuts. Multiple shooters implies this was a planned event where multiple people not only knew about it, but decided it was a good idea to participate....wtf?

One shooter=mental issues
Many shooters=conspiracy

The gunman was a psychiatrist.

I have a theory that a number of people who go into psychiatry are themselves nuts.

They've been reporting all evening that it was multiple shooters and the main guy was shot dead.

Now it's down to just one shooter and he is still alive, though shot up a little.

Now it's being reported that the suspect is in custody - in stable condition - and that he allegedly sympathized with suicide bombers in writing.

Off to Leavenworth for Hasan, where he is being assigned for his first joint tour.

Said in the New York times that his family came to the U.S. from Jordan. I'm wondering if we'll hear something about him being connected to terrorists in the near future.

I am sure his job was tough, but as a shrink, he had resources he could use. All he had to do was ask. Not an easy task, but isn't it what he would prescribe?

I feel plenty sorry for him. I feel sorry for him because he's gonna get executed, and probably after only a short stay in prison.

I just love these type of threads. It just reveals so much about various posters.

"Hussein", "Hassan", they are sound the same anyways.

xnarg posted that in real time... your 5th quarter talk is crap!

When 9/11 and NY/PA plane and terrorists with muslim names killed thousands and wage war with US. hussien, hassan, names have no sympathy from me.

I do not get your point. How does timing affect my point? I say the choice of "Hussein" was not an accident at all. But if you believe it is innocent the you are a better person that I am.

Why is it revealing? If you were listening on the radio, depending on the signal, reporter, and time of story, how they pronuced the guys name, to hear hussein instead of hassen is not hard.

its not like the guys name was smith, and xrang fliped that to hussein.

    edit:
    your post
IMHO it reveals way more about you then xnarg.

As I mentioned in the other post, if you believe that it was innocent, you are a better person than I am . But it is not as if I joined this forum yesterday and do not know the personalities. For example, if someone is obsessed with BET and Ebonics, I draw certain conclusions.

And I am ok with your claim that my post reveals more about me. Fair is fair.

Sheesh I have the same reaction to names such as Timothy (McVeigh), Dylan (Klebold), Eric (Harris), Jeffrey (Dahmer), John (Walker Lindh)

While I think it is wrong to hear a name and immediately associate it with some negative or positive trait, event, or culture, it does happen. I am guilty of hearing that name yesterday and thinking could this guy be part of a bigger plot or movement? It happens, but we cannot let our initial thoughts close our mind so that when the real story comes out, we hear what we want to hear (think the recent 'birthers' movement).

Further......to think something is one thing, to then say/write it is another thing.

We all know mentioning the person's Arabic name has connotations and could be explosive. So the responsible thing is not to highlight it as it was in the post that I responded to. What if indeed this guy was a mental case and his action had nothing to do with his ethnicity/religion? How responsible is it to mention his name? If his name was "McVeigh" would the same poster have emphasized/highlighted it? Now, the information that says this person has posted messages in favor of or at least justifying/explaining suicide bombers is a fair point to broadcast.

But it seems to me that no one (including me ) is willing to acknowledge the elephant in the room. I am not as upset about "Hassan" as I am about "Hussein."

Back on topic, or people will be locked out of the thread.

I'm not going to lock it. Feel free to discuss it as a news article, but let's keep the race, politics and religion out. I'm moderating it from this point forward.

Thank goodness for Officer Kimberly Munley of the Fort Hood Police Department, who was a first responder and who shot Hasan four times, stopping the carnage.

How long did it take before Munley got a chance to stop Hassan? I am amazed (and thank God) that more people are not killed in these situations.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Authorities say Fort Hood shooting Nidal Malik Hasan remains in a coma but is expected to live. A federal law enforcement official said investigators have not been able to talk to Hasan since the deadly rampage that left 13 people dead and injured 30 others at the sprawling Army post in Texas on Thursday.

ITA. It does appear that unhinged people tend to be attracted to that career field.

Excellent, he'll put up less of a struggle when they put the needle in his arm.

Nah, she missed the right shot. Now the guy's costing the taxpayers a lot more money to run all the machines keeping me alive AFTER all the money spent on the operations that 'saved' his life. A kill shot would have been a much better shot.

    The golden question: Would you
    A) Kill a murderer knowing he had a quick death.. and didnt really pay for his crimes.
    or
    B) Tell a murderer he will die after 10 years.. and let him live in a small jail cell with few amenities till his previously announced death sentence. This option would cost tax payers but would also make him suffer.

I say (A). Who cares if he dies now and doesnt suffer or dies later and suffers.

While a kill shot would have been cheaper, she did stop the wacko. Also, news said she was wounded in the attack; she did a fine job.

TxAggieJen said: Said in the New York times that his family came to the U.S. from Jordan. A lot of unfounded rumors are coming from places like FoxNews in regard to the alleged shooter's background and supposed motives. Well, I just went to the New York times website and found NOT ONE of those scurrilous accusations mentioned.

Things such as the report that the alleged shooter made some kind of battle cry (something like Ollie Ollie Oxenfree) as he began shooting. Or that he "came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades."

Which of course is all made up nonsense, for if it were true then the real journalists at the New York Times would report it. But they didn't, so it's not.

NYT DID mirror a CNN comment that "a cousin of Major Hasan said that he took 'flak' for being of Middle Eastern origin."

In other words, it's all OUR fault. See, I knew I could count on CNN and the New York Times to get to the bottom of things.
