I bought the JVC video camera for the $179 or so from Circuit city a few years back. The playback and all was fine (it was the only video camera I have ever had).
I am tired of dealing with tapes and wondering which ones I can tape over, which to keep and having to move to the right spot to record. Then the transfer and all to my PC can be a pain.
I think it would be easier if I just had a digital video camera to use.
Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for a decently priced video camera? If there is a decent one for $179 like before, that would be great.
Also, what should I look for in a video camera? I know it will not be high end and it will have minimal features, but I think we are missing some great things that we would like to get on tape. My kids are 16 and 15 months so it is a great time to be able to help us remember all of our great times.
The transfer to your computer is going to "be a pain" for any video camera. I'm not sure what you want to be different. True, transferring from a tape-based camcorder may take a bit longer than a camera that uses a hard drive or flash drive, but you'll still have to go through some process.
If you are concerned about taping over things, just buy a whole bunch of tapes when they're on sale and then don't worry about it. Or, transfer them immediately to your computer and then mark them as available.
FWIW, DVC tapes are indeed digital (that's the "D"). An advantage of tapes over hard drive is that you won't fill up the camera, which might be a concern if you're on vacation and don't have a convenient way to offload video to a computer.
