The trouble with a natural disaster is you do not always have time to take advantage of your prepareness kit!! OK-I am at the grocery stores getting a few things I forgot, meanwhile there goes my house and car at home from a freak tornado. Damn, I didn't get to use the bottled water and two weeks worth of clothes, medicines, and vital papers I had packed in the front closet. In fact, I no longer have a front closet. Some things are just hard to prepare for.
My husband knows that if there is a disaster, I will go to police station behind our block and wait for him, if that is a feasible option.
Hurricane: Enough notice to avoid almost any life threatening problems Earthquake: It's not an east coast thing...yet Tornado: Hide in the pantry with kids Fire: Run!
I have canned goods and bottled water, and don't live right next to a lake on a slight incline from the street. I also have running shoes for sink holes. Also have renters insurance
I have also found that liquor is better to keep around instead of beer, during an emergency.
When I lived in WNY, I had cold weather survival gear in my trunk. Getting stranded on a drive was a possibility.

I have many fond memories of skiiing Mt Trashmore.
