I've got it installed and running! It works well, but the only improvement is easy ads to the shortcut bar.

i saw a commercial for windows 7. it's amazing how it looks like some of the linux/unix guis from a few years back.

Free Toshiba Win 7 Home Premium disc arrived in the mail yesterday. Vista is running perfectly on the laptop, no immediate plans to upgrade, maybe wait until system gets sluggish and a service pack or two are released.

That is a great thing imo.

XP runs faster than W7 in most stuff, W7 is faster in shutdown if that's important.

source?
seems a LOT faster than xp on my netbook

This benchmark shows XP runs Firefox 11% faster than Windows 7. They did not see the same improvement in other programs, but some people use primarily Firefox most of the time they are using a computer.
Firefox under XP and Windows 7

On the other hand, benchmarked speed of a program and perceived responsiveness are different. A program may benchmark faster or take less time to recalculate a spreadsheet, etc. under one O/S, but may feel much more responsive under another. Some people claimed that responsiveness in the UI was better in Vista than XP even though nearly all benchmarks were much worse.

Buy a new computer between July 2009 and Sept 2009 with Vista, and it should be upgrade eligible. (Yes, I realize this doesn't help now.)

What camiolo said is right, probably too late now.

Bought a Toshiba laptop in August w/free upgrade to Windows 7. Got around to filling out online form 2 weeks ago, disc came this week.

OMG...this is the first message I think I have ever seen from pyee that hasn't been edited (well hasn't been edited yet).

I have no plans to upgrade... I will more then likely get a new laptop in 2 years and I am sure they will have some of the bugs worked out by then.. running vista now and have had zero issues with it so far

And it shall remain that way! MUHAHAHAAH

I just installed Win7 Pro64. I am very happy with it so far. I ran the RC1 for a long time though, and i was pretty happy with that too.

I got a free copy of ultimate from an MS launch event I went to. Haven't installed it - I have a "hackintosh" I was fooling around with that's sitting at a friend's house - probably going to get it back from him and put it on there. I've had like 3 coworkers ask me if they could have it...

Is a hackintosh a PC with Mac OS or a Mac with Windows?

Have you heard anything about upgrades to 7? I've only heard of decent reviews of new computers w/7, but not upgrades. No one I know has rushed out to get it.

Windows is so 2000. If you can't live without it, run a virtual machine under Ubuntu or some other flavor of linux.

if windows is so 2000, then linux is so 1990.

In 1995, I couldn't used linux effectively as my primary OS. I do now.

This internet thing is so 1996.
