Is it really so hard to understand that we don't allow politics? Why the big surprise if a post gets deleted when our policy is to not allow political and religious discussion?

While most of us understand the ban on discussion of political issues, I think many of us are puzzled that the mere mention of the existence of politics or religion, even when mentioned as a joke and without discussion of the merits of a political policy or a religion, are banned.

but the ban on those topics was due to posters not agreeing with each other right?
so why not carry that thought process to all topics whereas someone may disagree
It's because inevitably, someone will come in and blast away and not be joking. And it can be pretty hard to interpret when someone is joking or not. The fairest way is to not allow any of it. Otherwise, we get accused of picking on someone, or some particular political party.

I think its tough on the community because our country is on the cusp of radical, dynamic change. It's hard not to reference what is on everyone's mind with my "friends" at FW and especially OT. It's like not being able to say the words "airplane" "fireman" and "skyscraper" after 9/11.

Perhaps some of us are here to escape "what is on everyone's mind?" I'm not interested in knowing the opinion of random people online at FW who may or may not be knowledgeable, truthful, intelligent, honorable, etc. about political matters or anything else for that matter. If I felt so inclined, I would seek out a POLITICALLY-FOCUSED FORUM instead.
When the site owner has made his intention/focus clear about FW, why do some people here have to keep arguing, protesting, trying to get around the rules, bitch, whine and moan about it when they can simply go where there are like-minded folks and enjoy life.

Because you aren't there, and Scott, Veggie, MA, FF, SLV, MB and all the rest. I don't know if I like you people, but I am comfortable with your FW personae.
I understand the reasons and the rules. I get frustrated because it isn't applied consistently. Since I want OTPI, I'm glad when mods let out a little slack, but then I get chapped when they pull it back. I said elsewhere it's just like parenting. If a rule is truly consistently applied, it becomes a non-issue. If you flip-flop on the rule the kids get pissed.
Pyeed for full disclosure: I do have ONE of you on icnore
I agree with others. The problem is consistency. At times, pretty inflammatory statements are allowed to stay up, at other times merely mentioning the word bailout or Ob@ma in a pretty much completely non political manner gets a post deleted. Some of this may come due to different mods having different interpretations of what politics exactly is or is not. That is something the mods need to work out between themselves.

So, that basically leaves the topics of food, sex, or sports that we can talk about.
Oh yeah, we can also talk about kittens and rainbows.

My post referencing O's weight vs S's weight got canned also, nothing to do with politics, but it's gone. And mine wasn't even lame.

because that fart you light on fire CAN create a bigger flame. I personally don't think any politics should be allowed jokes or not since there is always an unbalanced % of supporters.(someone WILL get mad). The same for religion, it is a testy subject and even political or religious innuendo (like baby jeebus)should be banned.
There are to many good things to talk about besides something that is controversial.

StarPilot was a woman? Religion and Politics is such a broad term, If you can give us a few thousand key words not to use... It might help. I personally have been VERY offended in the "What did you have for breakfast" thread.
