Let's discuss the economic ramifications of outerspace aliens. I will use the term "human" below to refer to a world citizen. Please take this serious because we need to plan for the future even if this situation is not immediate.

Provides a cheap labor work force:

1) This reduces the expenses of humans to free up capital to spend on other things. Some humans may now be able to work two jobs and pay an alien to watch their children during the day.

2) This reduces overhead of business owners who may otherwise not be able to run a business if they had to pay FICA taxes, full wages, and now healthcare.

3) This cheap labor force shifts the supply-demand curve in a such a way that it promotes humans to go to college and get technical and science degrees and increase the education of Americans.

4) Reduces liabilities. Humans can be very litigious and frivolous and sue for ridiculous things.

Facts:

1) Outerspace Aliens may come here and may be able to survive because humans's are willing to hire them for their services. Aliens are not coming here for free education or free healthcare or to collect welfare.

2) If humans have a financial incentive to hire Aliens, then they will continue to hire them.

How to stop Outerspace Alien Immigration:

My argument is that outerspace aliens are not a bad thing, however the government may have full power to stop the aliens.

As it is unclear what species will arrive, Planning is critical here. We have to decide whether we need to build are force field to keep them out or if we are able to control them and put them to use.

I am going to leave the rest of the topic open for brainstorming.

Exploiting extra-terrestrial labor for fun and profit?

Posted on an alien internet forum, referring to poor Earthoids as cheap labor.

By "Earthoids", you obviously mean to exclude Americans right? Because I hear working for aliens is one of those jobs Americans simply won't do...

How about taxing leprechaun gold?

thread of the week.

and this will be recognized by the mods who will treat this thread as they treat all threads of the week... by banishing it to some FW subforum dungeon where it will never see the light of day and be surrounded and tormented by mentally-ill albinos.

Since they are not humans we should not pay they, rather we should make them our slaves. We should also determine what they taste like. If our new slaves wear out we could possibly use them for food.

This is too good to hide. We're moving it to Off Topic where it will live a much happier and probably fuller life

this sound like how families talk grandpa into going to live in a rest home... "you'll like it there, you'll make new friends and have lots of fun!"

...I knew I'd used that phrase somewhere before...

i think aliens who come here are more likely to turn the men into eunuchs and have their way with our women. they they will make us learn their language and speak only alien. we'll have to raise our children as aliens and later be fed to the alien children as baby food.
until then, they will provide cheap credit, cheap labor and good food.

Why would aliens from outer space need cheap human labor? Or why would outer space aliens be a souce of cheap labor?

Aliens won't come for our water. Plenty of water on Europa/Mars etc. so water is likely plentiful in the universe. Even if they do want it they could fill up thousands of V motherships in the oceans and it would be a negligible drop in the oceans.
Aliens won't come for our women or men, unless they're a whole race of "furries"...
Aliens won't come for our resources. Plenty of exotic materials in asteroids etc.
Aliens won't come to eat us. They got here, so they must already have a food supply.

Really, there's only two reasons for aliens to come on purpose. Habitable planets are more rare than we think so they raze us for land, and to spread a religion/philosophy.

On the plus side, credit card companies will now be able to "upgrade" from platinum/diamond etc cards to "jkshfasdasdium".

Don't we need the aliens to take the ocean water? That will prevent flooding when the polar ice melts from global warming.

"Earth" is actually a reality show channel on alien's TV stations.

I think you and I got punked by taking this thread too literally.

Apparently someone (and I don't mention any names) is making fun of someBBBody else's post (I won't mention names here either).

Entire industries depend on outerspace aliens:

1. Restaurants,

2. Hotels,

3. Dry cleaning, etc,

4. Childcare,

5. You name it.

There are two flavors of outerspace aliens: (i) those who got papers, and (ii) those who probably will eventually get papers. And even if some don't get papers, then their children will get papers.

The only question of relevance is if aliens in groups (i) and (ii) pay taxes. I know for a fact that if taxes are with-held from their pay, then most likely the said aliens won't file, and if with-holding is almost equal to taxes owed, then no harm is done.

However, I hear that some outerspace aliens are getting smart and starting to do things that will eventually cause a big issue. Some aliens are not trying to use tax loop-holes in illegal ways (e.g., EIC), as well as stealing identities for "profit and fun".

I hear some aliens qualified for outrageous loans in the hey-day of free and cheap credit, and bot $700K+ homes on $23K undocumented income.

I think it will be a bold statement by the US govt that made the following simple rule:

If a business hires outerspace aliens, then business must ensure that with-holding is done on the MAXIMUM possible taxation rate at all levels: (a) payroll (social security and medicare and the new healthcare tax), (b) federal, (c) state and local.

Example: if an outerspace alien has two gainful occupations, earning exactly $106K in each job per year, then both jobs are taxed at full social security allowance. Normally, if a documented person earned 2 x $106K, then only the first $106K would be social security taxable in 2009.

Similarly, for federal tax. I.e., even if two outerspace aliens are legally married, but one of them is not making any income, so that together, they would qualify for higher deduction, personal exemption, and overall lower taxation scale, the taxation would occur at terms that are disadvantageous to the said alien couple.

And then the enforcement is simple. If the business owner does not ensure that said tax is collected, then punishment is life in prison.

Watch how all the chips will fall into their places.

Yea, an Alien friend of mine sent me a copy of "Homo sapien Idol" It was pretty weak.

Since tolamapS already addressed the obvious metaphor, let me ask this question.

If an off-world civilization manages to master instellar travel, properly compensating
for various concepts such as relativity, quantum physics, and probably several fields
of study that we have yet to even recognize their existence, they would travel untold
numbers of light years to "Earth" only to become our obediant servants?

I'm thinking it would play out more like the old british safari expeditions to Africa
where they would be looking for trophy souvenirs to bring back and document their exploits.

perhaps gatzdon, but you are leaving out the possibility that a lower sub-species may be fleeing from a "higher-intelligence" civilization --- thus they have the ability to travel but they are seeking a less hostile environment to provide servant functions

of more concern is the likelihood that members of the "higher-intelligence" group already got to the moderators of FW --- because there is no other reasonable explanation for moving this topic out of the normally wide-open Finance forum
