Potential problems with this ebay sale?

I have an item at a buy it now price on eBay. A potential buyer from Denmark emailed and wants to know if I'd sell to her. She wants it badly for a wedding gift. Yes, it is a specialized item, antique, that isn't readily available elsewhere. She joined eBay today therefore has no feedback. If I choose to sell to her, how can I be assured the payment via paypal is valid and won't get reversed in a week or two? Do you see potential for a scam here from her? Due to all the internet scams out there, I'm a bit apprehensive here.

Is there any payment system out there in which I would be protected against a charge back or fraudulent payment, such as Western Union?

You can find the answer to this question on eBay seller's forums or paypal terms of service.

Take a leap of faith OP, trust your fellow man...what harm could there be? I never sell to anyone outside the lower 48...if someone contacts you about your item from outside the US and needs expedited shipping, you're being scammed.

I've never had anyone in Scandinavia even try to rip me off, ever. Not a single problem from there. There are plenty of countries that set off alarm bells but Denmark isn't one of them. OP's not selling iPads or whatever scammers prefer.

Have the person pay you with a bank wire.

What could go wrong if they send the money via Western Union? You get the cash in hand, then ship the item.

At least their not from Nigeria

It's not hard for a scammer anywhere in the world to hire a proxy in another country that gets a cut of the scammed loot. I'd be very skeptical of shipping anything of great value outside the U.S. unless you did receive a bank wire and had the cash on hand.

A bank wire gives that person your account number, how can that be safe?

You can only wire money out of your own account to someone. You cannot wire out money from some else's account.

You should not worry about it. I ship stuff to Europe every month via USPS. I had more headaches with the morons no putting the wrong address in Paypal, and taking forever to reach their destination than worried about being scam out of my money. As long as you have a track number, you have confirm to Paypal that you did ship the them and you can take pictures with packaging box, shipping label just in case. This seems urgent to the buyer convince her to use Priority USPS or FedEx so it get there in time and that you can track the progress of the shipping. Call her up on Skype, email her, see if her is for real.

Have you ever gave someone a personal check? It lists your account number at the bottom.

money order or cashiers check!! she can overnight it to you if she really wants it

Keep us updated. My Magic 8 ball said 'try again'.

Tell them Miss Manners says you have up to a year to send a wedding gift. Plenty of time. In the mean time she should give them a card saying a donation has been made to the Human Fund.
