ogg said:what would happen if you accepted a paypal payment from one of these scammers? if they never received the item, would they open a case with paypal against you? or would they just forget about it and move on to the next victim? what would eventually happen to the money in your paypal account? Typically the scammers like to use stolen CCs or hijacked PayPal accounts. The scammer would not open an INR or SNAD case against you. They got what they wanted - a free product with free shipping. Instead, the CC company that issued the stolen CC will go after PayPal for the unauthorized transaction. PayPal will then go after you for the funds. If the scammer's item never arrives, he won't bother filing an INR. The scammer is out nothing but time. He just moves onto the next seller/victim.
One other potential scam involves the use of an unconfirmed and/or international shipping address and PayPal. PayPal will automatically grant and INR claim if the transaction is not SPP-eligible. So yes, some scammers may file an INR (even if they do get the item), but these are not the classic Nigerian scammers.
if they try to scam you, why not fight back? maybe i'm not thinking this all the way through, though. How would you propose doing this? Some people do have lots of funplaying with scammers (see this page for one example)/ Others turn over whatever info they have to the proper authorities. Most of us simply use our brains and avoid obvious scams in the first place. There's really not much to be done after the scam has occurred. Prevention is the key. |

That same item, direct from Apple, retails for $1999. 3. Your offer for $645 is apparently enough to satisfy the seller. 4. Why are alarm bells not going off in you head??? This is totally a scam. If you pay, you'll never see your money again, nor will you ever get the PowerBook. |

I know that 009 country code is from Nigeria but it was the "44" that I couldn't figure out. Obviously this is a scam but I'm hoping I could maybe forward this info to some authority? Any imput would be great. Thanks.

Hello,
I saw that you left me a post on Powerbookcentral that you might be interested in buying my powerbook. It is still for sale. the price is $800 firm. That includes shipping. I only ship within the united states. And I will only accept paypal as a payment. If you are interested let me know and I will send you a paypal money request. If you are still interested please email me back. As I said in my post the screen and battery are brand new.
Thanks --------------------------------------------------------

is this a scam or not? I recieved an e-mail by him What makes you ask? Trust your intuition- if something seems off it probably is.
In this case the price seems reasonable, perhaps a bit low given the new battery and screen. You can check everymac.com as a very rough price guide; eBay is also a good place to gauge the fair market value.
You did notice the disclaimer in the ad about the software, right? "Evaluation" is code for illegal copies. Make your decision based on the hardware, not the software. You get no disks and no licenses, and indeed should delete any apps for which you don't own licenses. |

I was bored recently and came up with the following canned reply to these offshore eBaye scammers:
First off, thank you for your offer. Understand that I will need full payment first. Customs fees are your responsibility. Kindly send payment details once arranged.
You will receive tracking information promptly. Orders usually ship next day after payment. Upper limit is two days after payment.
Will be curious to see if any of them reply back. |

Here is an email I just received. Has anybody had any experience with it? Certainly I didn't do what he said.
Dear xxxxxxx,
I am contacting you in order to try and solve a serious situation before it gets out of my hands. It has recently come to my attention that you or someone using your eBay ID have been using my Credit Card information on eBay for auction purposes - which I assume were not legitimate - and big amounts of money were taken out of my account. Please check your eBay user password to see if it was perhaps changed. I have contacted my attorney and he told me that I should contact you and let you know of this problem before I pursue legal action against you and try and solve the situation. At this point I am assuming it is not you who is doing this, but a third party. Please contact me as soon as possible so we may solve this problem or I will be forced to pursue this by legal means. If you do not respond I will assume it was you and act accordingly. I will wait for your answer within the next 48 hours before I move on this |

That's a new one to me. What's the "xxxx", your real name, your email address, or your eBay ID? Did the email come straight to your email address, or through eBay's system? If it came through eBay, report it to them.
If it were legit, eBay would likely NARU you before this person would get your contact info. The veiled threats with a deadline lead me to think it's not legit. Wouldn't hurt to verify that your eBay account has not been compromised though. |

From this page:
"To report misuse of Contact an eBay Member, please click on the "report" link in the email you received."
If you don't have the email anymore, the link above has more help. This is a rare occasion where I would disagree w/ tlaxson -- I would take the time to report it. Only takes a moment, and it might save some other poor sap, if only for the time being. |

A buyer from Ukraine is willing to pay for an item through paypal and wants it to be send to an unconfirmed Ukraine address. The buyer has above 500 feedback rating and 100% positive. Can it be possibly a scam? |
