Second Chance Offer! -- Buy The Item You Recently Bid On
Dear ,
Good news! The following eBay item on which you placed a bid for US $5,000.00 is now available for purchase:
1930 Ford : Model A Item number: 4564422214 Your Price : US $5,000.00 Date : Aug-02-05 Don't let this get away!
Second Chance Offer
The seller is making this Second Chance Offer because the high bidder was either unable to complete the transaction or the seller has a duplicate item for sale. Instructions: (please read carefully) Complete your eBay transaction in 5 easy steps:
Buyer and seller agree on the transaction terms and a selling price. Seller contacts eBay with the transaction details;eBay accepts the transaction and offers purchase protection to the buyer (if the transaction is declined, no further action is required from either the buyer or the seller); The buyer sends payment and the seller receives it. After the payment cleared, the seller must notify eBay. Buyer will send the payment details directly to the seller email address. The seller has three business days to send the buyer and eBay the tracking number of the shipment. If no tracking number is provided, a full refund is immediately sent to the buyer; Buyer receives the merchandise and has five days to inspect it. If it is complete and as described, the buyer should accept the merchandise. If he refuses the merchandise, the buyer must ship the merchandise back to the seller within three business days. After the inspection period is over, the buyer must contact eBay with the result of the inspection. If the buyer refuses the merchandise, the refund will be sent to the buyer after the tracking number for the returned shipment is verified. To enjoy the purchase protection, you must send the payment by the insured payment method below.
Attention: Sending the payment by any other method will void this transaction and your right to refund.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Details and instructions of this transaction:
The following item(s) are clear for eBay's item insurance policy: 1930 Ford : Model A Item number: 4564422214 Seller's verified payment address: Samuel Turner 9501 Sahara Ave W Las Vegas, NV 89117 United States Buyer's shipping address: Item Number: 4564422214 Amount insured: US $5,000.00
Payment must be sent by Western Union Money Transfer Next step to be taken: The buyer must send the payment to the seller.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Payment instructions:
To submit the payment with Western Union Money Transfer you have the following option: Pay for the transfer with cash at a local Western Union agent. Click here to locate the agents in your area : http://www.Westernunion.com/info/agentInquiryIntl.asp However, Western Union Money Transfer is designed mainly for sending cash to friends and family in need, so telling them you are sending the money to an eBay seller will prevent your money transfer to go through and you will be unable to complete this transaction. Because the fee to send a Western Union Money Transfer is high, compared to other methods of payment, we have arranged with the seller to compensate for half of this fee (i.e. if it costs you $100 to send the payment, take $50 from the amount insured and send the balance). Once the payment was sent, email the seller the following information: 1) 10 digit MTCN (Western Union Money Transfer Control Number): 2) Exact sender's name on file with Western Union: 3) Your street address on file with Western Union: 4) City and country where you sent the money from: 5) Amount sent: Then wait for the confirmation the payment was received. Within 3 business days, you will receive the tracking number for your merchandise.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Purchase protection and refund: Currently, this seller has a US$ 20,000.00 deposit in an eBay managed purchase protection account. Transactions with this eBay seller are covered by purchase protection against fraud and description errors. For your safety, this account was locked today, for 30 days time. The seller is unable to withdraw any money from it, within this period. Should you need a refund for this transaction, the insured amount will be taken from the seller's purchase protection account and sent to you. The refund is sent to your bank account, or by check or money order. The way you are refunded is at your choice. You have 30 days from the above verification date to request a refund. Refund requests are processed within 3 days. The insurer of this transaction is eBay Inc., located at 2145 Hamilton Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125, United States of America. The account is managed by eBay's Square Trade center. This transaction is supervised by eBay's Safe Harbor team.
CONDITIONS TO BE MET BEFORE YOU MAY ASK FOR A REFUND Here are the situations suitable for a refund request: 1) If the item doesn't arrive and/or the seller stops communications after the payment was received; 2) If the merchandise you receive has different specifications than the ones you agreed on; 3) If your merchandise arrives in a much longer period than the one you agreed on (more than 15 days from the payment clearance day); For cases 2) and 3) you have to send back the merchandise to the seller prior to ask for your refund. If you did not pay the seller by the required payment method, your refund request would be declined.
Important Usage Guidelines: 1. The contact information should only be used for resolving matters related to eBay. Any other use is strictly prohibited. 2. This transaction is protected by eBay services such as insurance, feedback and dispute resolution. 3. You may buy and sell with confidence in all transactions with this eBay member. 4. Just as reference, customs for an item like a laptop to Mexico are close to 30% (15% IVA + 15% import value fee)
As far as scam, just remember the most basic rule. Cash in your hand and you are almost good to go. I say almost because if you deposit a check and the accoutn shows funds it doesn't mean the check is good. I suggest to insist on bidpay for this item. |

Legit if you ask me. He wants to use a forwarding company. This third party forwarding company takes care of the shipment and customs to send it out of the USA. He pays them a fee. I would say that as long as the transaction details show "SPP elegible" and "confirmed address" you are fine. Of course, I would advise to use something else other than paypal. |

I have a new buyer from poland (registered Aug 30, '05). The buyer has successfully bidded on one laptop. He contacts me and wants to buy my item (about $200) and have it shipped to an address in Michigan. I replied back and said I will ship my item only in USA and will only accept USPS money Order. He agreed and sent me his address (his mother as he states) and asked for mine.
Should I proceed further by giving my full name, address etc or should is this a scam for phising etc.... |

Wow, just thought this guys story was quite amusing .
Dear Sir, With due respect, trust and humility, I write you this letter which I believe you would be of great asisstance to me.I got your contact from the World Trade Center (W.T.C) here in Bangkok Thailand. I am Mr James Mundali, a 27 Year old undergraduate Law Studient of University of Accra,Ghana. The only son of Late Engr Lordson Mundali. My father was the Director of General of Libian National Petroleum Corporation,But he was assasinated by his (own only brother) as a result of trying to acquire my father’s wealth forcefuly, which he has finaly succeeded doing. The most urgly part of it is that he has being searching for me to kill me too to enable him inherit all my Late father’s wealth smoothly. I decide to run for cover,by escaping from my country GHANA, to Bangkok, Thailand where I am residing as an asylum seacker (Refugee). Before the death of my father,he caled me secretly as his only son,and revealed to me of one stainless trunk box containg the sum of US$ 40,000 000 Dollars which he deposited with a security firm in Bangkok, Thailand for safe keeping. He also made me to understand that he got the money through some secrete deals he executed in his office. I was strongly warned by him,not to reveal this secret to any body, But I am now revealing it to you because my father is no more alive and my mother also died while I was a kid long time ago. As you can see, I am too young to control this hugh some of money. Therefore,I humbly appeal to you to asisst me move this funds out of Thailand to your country for an investments which would also be under your kind control. But, before that, you would have to come down to Bangkok Thailand and asisst me retreive the box containing the funds from the security firm. As soon as the funds are being retrived from the security firm, then you will open a non resident bank account in any of the local bank’s here in bangkok where the funds would be lodged into, for onward transfer to your account in your country. Note, that my father did not reveal the contents of the box to the security firm, rather he told them that the contents are family valueables. |

Posting this here because of the new AccountGuard device that eBay offers to help identify a TRUE eBay site. -Zer From: eBay Customer Support <spoof@eBay.com> Subject: Your recent report to eBay's Trust and Safety Department. Date: Sep 12, 2005 2:10 PM Hello, Thank you for writing to eBay regarding the email you received.
Emails such as this, commonly referred to as "spoof" or "phished" messages, are sent in an attempt to collect sensitive personal or financial information from the recipients.
The email you reported was not sent by eBay. We have reported this email to the appropriate authorities.
In the future, be very cautious of any email that asks you to submit information such as your credit card numbers or passwords. If you are ever concerned about an email you receive from eBay, simply follow these steps:
1. Open a new Web browser and type www.eBay.com into your browser address field to go directly to the eBay site.
2. On eBay, click on the "My eBay" link at the top of the page and sign into your account.
3. Check the "My Messages" link located on the left side of the My eBay page. If an email affects your eBay account, it's now in "My Messages." Any email sent to your registered eBay email address from eBay or from another eBay member via eBay's member-to-member communication system will also appear in "My Messages."
Just remember, if you get an email regarding a problem with your account or that is requesting personal information, and the email looks like it is from eBay, please check My Messages first. If it's not there, it's a fake email.
If you still have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay, please forward it to spoof@eBay.com immediately. Do not respond to it or click any of the links. Do not remove the original subject line or change the email in any way when you forward it to eBay.
If you have already entered sensitive personal information, financial information, or your password into a Web site based on a request from a spoofed email, you should take immediate action to protect your identity and all of your online accounts. We have developed an eBay Help page with valuable information regarding the steps you should take to protect yourself.
http://pages.eBay.com/help/tp/isgw-account-theft-reporting.html
To review eBay's new tutorial about Spoof Emails, please see the following Web page: http://pages.eBay.com/education/spooftutorial/
To help you better protect yourself from fake eBay and PayPal Web sites, we have developed a feature for the eBay Toolbar called "Account Guard." Account Guard includes an indicator of when you are on an eBay or PayPal Web site or a known spoof (or "phishing") site, buttons to report fake eBay Web sites, and a password notification feature that warns you when you may be entering your eBay password on an unverified site.
To learn more about the eBay Toolbar with Account Guard, please go to www.eBay.com, click on "Downloads" at the bottom of the page, and then click on the "eBay Toolbar" link.
We also recommend that you keep your browser, operating system, and virus protection software up to date. Check for updates at the "Windows Update" link on www.microsoft.com and scan your computer for viruses often.
Once again, thank you for alerting us to the spoof email you received. Your efforts help keep eBay a safe and fair place to trade.
Regards,
Ande eBay SafeHarbor Investigations Team |

I am curious about this one and I would appreciate if the more seasoned FWers give advice. How can getting your name and address help them? I don't think it is too different than going into the white pages and finding it. So how can this affect?
Thanks
