I sold a whopping one Xbox for $1200 and the buyer payed using Paypal. Instantly my account is suspended along with my selling abilities on eBay. They say i have to send them documents proving who I am liek a bank statement, etc. Then they need to confirm my phone number and tell me it looks suspicious that I only have a cell phone! Lastly I have to give them the tracking number for the item. Well after 2 weeks of waiting after I supplied them the information I call them up. Now they say they can't do anything until the item show "delivered" from USPS. Well I tell the rep the buyer received it 10 days ago and to check. He says he can't and it has to go BACK to resolution department! Three more days go by and still nothing so i call back again and get BS so demand to speak to a manager. He says it is in Que and they will get to it.

Well the next day I get a email saying they reviewed everything, but now they need to get confirmation from the buyer saying he got it. I was pissed and asked what if he does not respond, or worse lies? He had no answer. Then I ask how much longer because I need MY money that Paypal is holding and then say how I love how they freeze my money and account, but have no issue taking out their fees!

So yesterday i contact the buyer and he was nice and emailed them back. Called this morning and big shock, they can't find it but it may be in que. So now back to the waiting. My next step my be to threaten with legal action.

be CAREFUL ,if NO signiture on the delivery receipt by the buyer!! then
the buyer will most likely get his $$ refunded! as the buyer
can claim someone else was there when any package arrived! and you will
be out BOTH an xbox and $$ .. or best case you will have your $$
FROZEN for 6months (while they claim an
investigation is going on) and then if they deem it so you MAY request
to get your $$ (maybe).

That's what happen when you try to rip people with an xbox for 1.2K $.

You'd better post in FW auction forum.

It isn't ripping anyone off. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

Paypal a joke, they protect the buyer way to much and the seller can easily get screwed. I lost over $1000 worth of Bose sound systems because I sent them and had all the documentation and they said the buyer never recieved it and so on and reversed everything and charged me. I was out both Bose and $$. Also paypal is owned by eBay. What a monopoly!

I'm waiting for the new google online payment method

Yes, a transaction this big will immediately flag your account. I guess your account is a personal one (not business, not premium) and they treat personal account holders very badly (they don't like you getting the service for free lol).

I have come across this situation before. My sister sent me a similar amount of money (just for personal matters, not eBay, not sales.) via paypal and voila my account was suspended immediately. The funny thing was that I could still accept money, but just that I couldn't withdraw, send money. So, this means, paypal continued to hold the money, the more the better.

So, jump to the end. I spent 2 days with them and was lucky to talk to a CSR who manually released my suspension. yes, the CSR's could do that. So, how did I "move" her? Well, I just gave birth to my baby boy at that time and when I was talking to her, my baby was cooing and then crying (with the musical mobile on, you know, Brahm's lullaby). And I became emotional (well, just some postpartum blue, I think) and told her in a very emotional voice, "My sister sent me the money and I NEED it asap!!" (well, actually, I was not in urgent need of the money but I hate calling and calling again). I thought I heard a sigh on her side and she released my suspension immediately.

So, my suggestion is that you can keep calling and see if you are lucky enough to come across a CSR who is willing to do that for you. Yeah, I didn't even need to send in those things like driver license, bank statement, etc.

I can say one thing for sure, this will be the last time i use Paypal when selling. Not worth the hassle. Great for buyers though who can easily do chargebacks.

Clearly OP had a personal account and what Paypal did is RIGHT.

Screw OP, if he wants to sell high ticket items on eBay he should know better and confirm his account with paypal.

I'm absolutely thrilled Paypal does things like this. Its for buyers protection.

Bottom line is what happened to OP was all HIS fault. You dont try to sell $1200 items on eBay with a personal paypal account and further more he used a cell phone number! This reeks of fraud in paypals nose and they did the right thing protecting the buyer.

Kudos to Paypal for doing a fantastic job!

Ugabuga, Get you account confirmed. What were you thinking???

In this day and age, having a cell phone only is not unusual. And why get a Premeir account to sell occasional items. It was not OPs fault. I have no problem with PP flagging it, but the flag should be easily removable just like when your credit card gets flagged.

You dont need a Premeir account to sell occasional items, you do if you sell occasional $1200 items! Confirming your account costs nothing and prevents fraud. Again what happened to OP was 100% his fault. You dont sell $1200 items without at LEAST confirming your account with paypal. This is common knowledge.
Kudos to Paypal for doing a fantastic job!

Why do you guys think the OP has a personal account? There's nothing in the OP to cause that line of thinking. Bottom line: Selling the 360 is well known to cause eBay/PayPal to take a second and third look at your account. Selling something for $1200 when you normally sell $5 widgets is well known to cause eBay/PayPal to review your account.

OP, take it easy. Give PayPal the docs they need. Don't worry about suing just yet. These account reviews often take a couple of weeks.

1. You do not confirm a PayPal account. You verify it. There is a big difference.
2. A premier account need not be verified, and vice versa.
3. The OP did not say his account was premier or personal. You have no basis for assuming either way.
4. The OP did not say his account was verified or not. You have no basis for assuming either way. The request for bak statements happens to both verified and unverified accounts.
5. This was not necessarily the OP's fault. This account review happens to a lot of sellers, not all of whom are scammers. The point of account review is to reduce risk. PayPal saw the OP's sale as risky (not as necessarily a scam) and decided to check up on the seller. Nothing more.

OP himself stated paypal asked him to send them documents like a bank statement proving who he was. This confirms his account was not verified.

Not necessarily. If you search through FWOA, you'll see tales from sellers about being forced to provide these kinds of docs despite being verified.

I can served as proof. Mine verified and it's premier account for 2 years. Last couple of months I received and withdraw unusual large amount of money and suddently my account got suspended. Also my eBay account at the same time. After a week of NO response with so many emails and phone calls, they finally lifted the suspension. But my eBay still suspended and NO response from eBay and payPal can't help it either. I'm so pissed!

My advice, don't use payPal unless you only want to sell for under $1000 in a month or you will get flag and suspended, especially if you're not used to received that much money in short period of time.

Have heard many horror story and don't care till experienced one myself. Agreed, couldn't wait till Google release theirs.

This sounds like paypal at its best. Big Money transaction = flag. so they automatically suspend it. make you jump through the hoops. not buyers fault. they probably are very happy playing with the xbox. you need to fax the documents in. fax them multiple times a week. heh. keep calling.

and please tell us that you put a signature required for that shipment. this time it may not get you in trouble, but you would automatically lose if buyer complained.

Buyer won't get the $1200 back, PAYPAL will confiscate it!!!

Will the public ever learn?

http://paypalsucks.com/

You will probably have to take Paypal to court to get your money back.

You obviously do NOT sell on eBay or you would not have this ignorant mentallity!

Paypal wants everyone to go Premier, so they can get the fees that a personal account doesn't generate.

Paypal is a rip-off machine and there is no such thing as fraud protection.

You better hope this NEVER happens to you or you WILL change your tune!

My account was "disabled" as well, I faxed in everything and they released the freeze after a week or two. The lesson learned is to always us UPS or Fedex for expensive items, and to always insure them for the full amount. If the seller denies getting the item, you have two recourses to get your money - UPS/Fedex and PayPal. USPS Insurance claims are a nightmare.

Good luck OP.

Did you mail out the Xbox before or after your PayPal acct got suspended?

A 6K member behaving like a brainless newbie, complete with personal attacks and PayPal brownnosing? Sounds like green envy to me. What, did you try to sell a few X-boxes yourself and it didn't work out? Or did your wife-sister brought home really bad moonshine this time? Or maybe Paypal hired you as one of their "top-of-the-line" minimum-wage CSRs that can't tell their brain from their ar*e?

UPS/FEDEX claims are not always easy or pleasent either, but with those carriers if the account got suspended or the funds were frozen while in transit, you can call and re-route the item back to yourself
