I understand that this service isn't guaranteed in 2-3 days and takes an average of 2-3 days. The last 2 packages I have shipped (not cross country) have taken 4 and 5 days. Is this normal for this time of year? If so, I think I might just switch to shipping UPS ground until after the holidays. What's the longest your Priority Mail packages have been in transit?

1 week

my paycheck which is mailed 20miles from my house, took 4 days to arrive. lol

I just sent 2 different priority mail envelopes on Monday 12/11/06. The one sent to New Hampshire (I'm in Los Angeles) took 2 days, and the one to San Francisco just got there today 12/15 (4 days later). Go figure.

I would stay with USPS. At least they deliver on Saturday without any extra charge. Plus, people know when their mailman comes to deliver post unlike UPS, which basically promises to deliver anytime between 9-7. Such a waste of time.

To answer your question, the longest for me has been about 4 days during holidays.

8 days.

A few years ago, I shipped an $8 item (a cradle for a Handspring Visor) priority from NJ to NC. It evidently took about a month to get there. The buyer emailed me after a couple weeks, and evidently it showed up a few days later - at which time he left me a neutral feedback (the only nonpositive feedback I've gotten in my nearly 8 years of the 'bay)

heh My regular UPS driver is always between 1-2pm. FedEx Home delivers on saturday also as a regular thing which is nice. IT really depends on where you live, DHL/FDX delivers really early to me since we are the outer town they go to first and work there way back to the hub. UPS is more local so not always early.

This topic came up last holiday season as well. about 4 weeks before and AFTER x-mas, the shipping times vary all across the country. Last year, I had several priority packages take up to 2 weeks, some 1 week and some regular 2-3 days. All hit or miss.

Everything I've been mailing lately has been taking 2 days to get to where it's been sent.

Yup. All mailing services are hammered. Last year at this time I drove to a UPS warehouse where my package was last scanned. They were so backed up that they couldnt find it. They said it was like looking for a needle in a hay stack. It took them 4 more days just to get the package from the local UPS to my house.

Longest 3 days, shortest 1 day. I personally love USPS Priority Mail...inexpensive for light items and fast. Best of all, free boxes! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border=0>

My experience with DHL Second Day was far worst.

Ordered : Before noon on Monday (Birthday present for someone so I figured I'm better off paying more and get Second Day Service.)
Shipped : 3PM on Monday
DHL Picked up : 4PM Monday
Supposed to get it on : Wednesday
Birthday : Thursday
Actual Delivery : 3PM Friday

Now...since when did Second Day became Fourth Day? It's like paying for a 5 star hotel to get 3 star service.
The worst thing was the DHL site never updates, kept telling me that I should expect my package to be delivered on Wednesday when it's already Thursday.

Ugh, I just shipped about 30 things priority today and have about 10-20 more for monday. I hope they get there in time!

Last year I shipped around 300 packages during December:

- 80% arrived within 3 days
- 10% arrived within 5 days
- 8% arrived within 7 days
- 2% took over 14 days

Let me tell you, I got calls every day from those 6 people whose packages were delayed for the full two weeks.

Last year I had several packages that took over ten days to reach their destination, the strange thing was ONLY the packages mailed on the 14th seemed to disappear. Because several packages I mailed on the fifteenth only took a week at the most. That is why this year I decided to end all auctions on the fifteenth, I do not want to risk a negative when a package does not reach it's destination in time for the holidays.

Yesterday I sent two things to the same person 1,000 miles away. Priority, as expected, has not yet been delivered. Somehow, the first class item showed up today. Go figure.

During this Xmas season, none of my FedEx Ground package have been late. I have had 4 packages get delivered a day EARLY by FedEx Ground. These were on routes where they are NEVER delivered early. Two of them were Home Delivery packages delivered on Monday, even though Home Delivery is normally Tue-Sat.

I did recently send a parcel via USPS 1st Class to a person one state over from me, and it took 7 days.

I am amazed by how fast USPS Priority is. I sent on 12/18 and they arrived today. Coast to coast.

yea, agreed, they're going quite fast now.

it depends on who you ask, the experiences will be different, but FOR ME:

I ship everything 3lbs or up DHL. I live near a large DHL distribution center, and things I ship ground arrive within one day to locations several states away (im in pa) ie connnecticut, New York, Georgia, Texas, Kentucky

The true coastal west coast states are the only ones where ground takes >4 days.

on topic though, longest a usps priority has taken for me was 6 days
