Separately, why are you concerned that the buyer will file SNAD? When I ship something, I can't think of a time when I would expose myself to an SNAD.

Your post struck a chord... I also list the description clearly enough... but I see SNAD as a catchall return reason for any sale made on eBay (I don't sell more than 8-10 items a year on eBay, but buy probably 20 a year)

What else do you recommend to not be exposed to SNAD ?

I bought a book which listed as "Ship via USPS Priority Mail", however, it came Media Mail and took almost a month. And the book got beaten up. Difference of the postage: 2 pounds Media Mail $2.76 Priority $4.99.

I don't want to return it since I need it for class, but I really unhappy about this situation. Beside a neg, what can I do? Thanks!

Hit the seller's DSRs as appropriate.

Were you charged for S&H? If so, I would ask for a S&H refund.

Very well done article...pretty much covers most buyer abuse tactics for both eBay and Amazon. Regarding the warranties bit, you also (usually) can get warranty service if what you buy comes with a warranty card eg. Samsung and Audio-Technica. Also, if you're buying from a *real* authorized dealer (check with the manufacturer), this will also qualify you for warranty service (in combination with an order-confirmation) even if you don't get a hard-receipt.

How long to wait with a seller that's either not there or ignoring you? 10 days gone by after a purchase and no response to 2 messages (through eBay) and no indication that the item has shipped. Seller claims same day/next day shipment in their listing, but there's no way NC-PA takes over 10 days unless he sent it by carrier snail.

EDIT: nevermind...damning feedback just turned up from another buyer (non-shipment), so I started the dispute through Paypal (and they already escalated automatically so it appears his account is already in deep doo-doo)

Just had a seller refuse to honor winning bid because it was too low. Ebays answer after filing seller non-performance complaint- Leave him negative feedback. "Duh" Legal mumbo-jumbo "buyer and seller" enter a contract- Is there any other recourse. I am planning to file a complaint against the seller with BBB.org (he's been an accredited member for 10 years with no record of complaints).

Beware of "engineered feedback".

I purchased a large gift card from a seller with good feedback. I saw that they had sold the same card and received positive feedback for it. When the seller stopped communication and I didn't receive the item, I looked at their feedback again. The person that left the feedback for the gift card was selling loads of Chinese electronics that very much resembled the types of items that my seller typically sold.

Sometimes it is necessary to dig a little deeper. I was refunded after a claim with paypal, however, I didn't really have the money to invest during the month it took to get my money back.
