I got 6 AMC silver passes a few months back and just used them today at AMC. Wife, daughter and I went in and a few minutes later one of the lady asked me to come over to the entrance to talk to manager. He told me the silver pass i used was counterfeit. I had bought them on eBay and paid through PROPAY. Initially the manager mentioned I have to pay for 2 tickets but when I explained I bought them on eBay he was fine and did not charge me...Nice guy.
Now I am searching my paypal history and dont see any transactions..Then I checked my AMEX and realized I might have used propay...I remember 6 tickets for $6 each and I searched my AMEX statement for any figure between 28 - 36.... I then tracked the eBay transaction around that time and i see this guy with 100% feedback..all his feedback and item list is PRIVATE...so i wrote an email to him asking if he had any more AMC tickets and i want to buy them...( I just want to make sure he is the seller and baiting him )...I guess I will wait for his reply and dispute my AMEX charge..
Just thought I will warn you guys out there in case you buying AMC tickets online..

Most people think "designer handbags" when they hear of fake goods. Most won't suspect a $7 movie ticket. So while it may be a reminder to you, it is a revelation to many. I guess this means you beat them all in life. That's right, who's the big winner today? Go you!
I bought $300 dollars worth of Amazon.com gift cards on eBay to get $100 of live CashBack. When I spent about $250, rest of balance disappeared all of sudden.
I freaked out and emailed and called Amazon.com. Later I found out those gift cards were purchased with stolen credit card and Amazon.com and credit card company took an action.
Fortunately it was within the time period of Paypal dispute and I was able to recover all of $300.
(I wasn't confident that I would get the money back since intangible & cash value items are excluded from Buyer protection.)
In the end, I got $250 of scammed money and $100 of live CashBack for free. Though, the experience was horrifying.

eBay has fake goods, I believe most people (on FW anyway) understand this. Was there a way for this buyer to know the tickets were fake? No. But they can take steps to protect themselves (and they did!).
The OP reminds people that not just "designer handbags" can be fake, use PP with a CC when buying from unknown people on eBay (or other places). I truly hope the OP was not a "revelation" to anyone here. The same precautions should be taken for every purchase.

They looked perfectly legit ... There is a AMC marker at bottom left of the passes. If you scrub it with your nail it will go off cleanly if its original. But if its a fake pass the black ink would smudge.

Get your hands on a real one and compare. Maybe the manager was trying to bs you. If I'm the manager and someone's using a fake pass, I'd at least make them pay for the ticket. It's really not my (manager) problem where you bought the passes from, if you get my drift. He probably don't want you guys to use those anymore because they're not making as much $$.

Well, that settles it then. There is no further need for anyone to post in these forums, since we all know everything already, according to you. If a post is made, it's simply a "reminder"... Also, wireless routers should be set up with encryption, and while driving in the U.S. we should pull over to the right when we notice sirens and flashing lights. These "precautions" will serve us all well in life. But of course, you already knew that. Is there anything you don't know, wise one?
I would like to subscribe to your blog.

This is why I use AMEX to pay for everything. You never lose to fraud. I use PayPal, but the funding source is AMEX, despite the nag messages that PayPal buyer protection exists - PayPal protection is shyte.

My God. I purchased 20 and have not yet used them. Planned to use during holiday season. It seems to be late to file Paypal dispute since it has been > 3 months. What should I do? Did anybody successfully use the tickets?
Dispute with credit cards immediately. Credit card dispute window is often up to 6 months. Call them, get them ball rolling, then send dispute letter via certified mail with return receipt.

I went to AMC today and the cashier scrub the AMC marker and told me it is real. I think he didn't watch it carefully. But I compared with a real ticket after I got home, I did notice the difference you mentioned.
So it seems that the tickets can be accepted by many theaters but I still think that they are counterfeit.

If you dispute using your credit card will paypal ban your account or should it have no effect?

Hi I AM GOING THROUGH THE EXACT SAME NIGHTMARE. I BOUGHT 10 GOLD PASSES (FOR $80 I THINK) AND IT ALSO WAS PRO-PAY BUT SINCE IT WAS BACK IN JUNE eBay WILL NOT HELP IN THE LEAST!! IN FACT I USED ONE WITHOUT ISSUE WHEN FIRST PURCHASING BUT THEN TRIED TO GO TO A MOVIE FRIDAY WITH MY HUSBAND AND SUFFERED THE SAME FATE (THERE'S SOME LOGO THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO CHECK FOR, I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS). I DUNNO IF YOU FOUND ANY SUCCESS BUT I ALSO HAVE BEEN DOING MY OWN RESEARCH AND THINK I MIGHT'VE FOUND THE PERSON (I ALSO BOUGHT SILVER SO IT MIGHT BE HIM, NOT SURE). JUST WONDERING THE STATUS AND CAN'T BELIEVE eBay WOULD BE SO COMPLICIT AND EVIL TO DELIBERATELY TURN A BLIND EYE AND PROMOTE FRAUD(HEY THEY GOT THEIR CUT, WHAT DO THEY CARE!!)
I think you will get alot more replies if you edit your post to remove the all caps lock. It makes it near impossible to read and no one takes posts all in caps seriously.
I guess the lesson learned is to avoid GC and movie tickets from eBay. I would ask around. Most people can get movie tickets through their work. My friend gets Silver AMC passes for $6 and I've been buying through him. Avoid the mail order because shipping/handling usually kills your discount.
