I purchased some boots off of eBay. The listing described them as being new - only worn once inside. My husband wore them to work for 2 days (works outside) and the soles have completely disintegrated. I e-mailed the seller and she stated that they were actually 3 years old – not new, just not worn. Didn’t know if I had a chance… they were almost $100 and we just can’t turn around a purchase another pair for him. She also said they weren’t listed as work boots – the listing has hiking & hunting, I don’t see why that would matter. No boots made for any activity should fall apart after only wearing them for 2 days. I just wanted to get some other opinions before I tried to do anything further... or if I just have bad luck.
You can always dispute! Paypal seems to error on the buyers side quite often, so I would think you have a good chance. You can always file with you CC and try again if you loose with Paypal.

I've never heard of a case where Paypal asks the buyer to substantiate the "S" part of SNAD. (ie S = Significantly)

Does he work in a diesel shop? walking around on a shop floor with different chemical spills on the floor?..boot soles or at least many of them will not stand up to petroleum distillates ( I have seen diesel fuel ruin soles on cheap boots within 2 hours)

No - he works in a bucket truck... So he's mostly around his truck, but is in mud & water.

"The listing described them as being new - only worn once inside" That's not new. Dispute and get a refund. Leave poor feedback.
