Paypal payment unclaimed - seller says I haven't paid

I'm the buyer in this situation. I bought an item (~$150) about a month ago and paid within minutes of the auction close via credit card funded paypal.

I received the item within a week and left positive feedback for the seller a few days later.

Since the sale, the seller has been bugging me that I haven't paid for the item yet. eBay shows a payment in full on the date of the sale and PayPal also shows the payment to the seller but with the status of "unclaimed".

I explained to the seller my understanding of PayPal that the payment would be released to them upon my leaving positive feedback or after x number of days had elapsed (I think 20 or 21).

Now the seller seems very upset that I "haven't paid" and has filed an unpaid item dispute with eBay.

What can I do to assure the seller gets paid for the item but also protect myself from double payment or false unpaid item disputes?

I don't have to "claim" payments.
The only time I've run into "unclaimed" is sending payments to an email address w/o a paypal account.. Sure it went to the right address?

I'd ask paypal about it.. If you get your money back, send it to the seller. Don't send payment twice (obviously).

The unpaid item dispute will go nowhere.

Sure it went to the right address? As of this evening the seller says they had an old email address in eBay and the payment went to that address. They asked me to instead send payment to a different address. Given that I already have the item, I don't see a problem with recalling the previous payment and reissuing to a new address.

Why did the seller ship you the item in the first place? Whatever you do, don't send another payment until you get the first one refunded.

Seller shipped because the items shows as "paid" on their eBay page.
I've had this happen both as a seller and buyer.
You should be able to log into your PP account and Cancel the unclaimed payment.
Then just get the correct PP e-mail from the buyer, and sent payment that way.

This happened to me when I set up another eBay account for selling some different items, I overlooked where PP was sending the money, and a few payments were "unclaimed" I just added that e-mail to mu PP and no issues, but maybe this seller can no longer access that old e-mail address to confirm it w. paypal.

Good luck.

This seems like a simple problem which can be easily solved, but PayPal is involved and PayPal makes stupid decisions.

If you take the money back and resend using a different PayPal address, PayPal might rule in the seller's favor for the UID and require you to pay twice. Pay using a credit card to be safe.

As long as the first payment is recalled, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the guidance. I was able to cancel the payment to the old email address and re-send payment to the new address. Given that I already had the item, I didn't see much harm.

The risk would have been the seller not cancelling the unpaid item complaint. Since I cancelled the original payment, it would have been valid. Fortunately, the seller got their money at the new address and everybody was happy.

i had this same thing happened a few months back when i purchased something. click pay now after i bought the auction and the payment went unclaimed in paypal. i contacted seller and he sent me a message back with some attitude saying how i'm lying and never sent payment. I canceling the payment since it went unclaimed and started to look into it and noticed the idiot seller typed in the wrong email address he had linked between eBay and paypal. Of course i told the seller this and he continued to call me a liar. so i gave him negative
