Wow, I have not seen this but not really surprised. eBay is surprisingly below the tech bar when it comes to site programing. For years they have not been able to fix a simple cookie to keep you logged into their website for longer than a day. They require you to change you security prefs which NO other website requires. Yes the internet is large so that is a big statement but just try to prove me wrong.
Hrmmm, IIRC, you can start the process of paying (assuming PP) and before you make final payment won't you get a summary screen that shows the recipient's email address?? Fuzzy memory here as I'm primarily a seller. Also it might be possible that the seller allows buyers to adjust the invoice amount for reasons like this. Again, fuzzy memory.
I know there are some "back door" methods to contact the seller. However this change is idiotic. After the auction, I want the ability easily contact the seller and I want buyers to be able to easily contact me. At that point contact among the 2 parties becomes more important. (for example, if a buyer wants to tell me their payment will be delayed a couple days I would want to know that. However eBay will block them from being able to do just that.)
What was eBay thinking when they made this change?
eBay is trying to be Amazon. You do not buy something from Amazon, and then send a bunch of e-mails asking about combined shipping, delated payments, size, color, etc. These should all be takes care of before buying/bidding. I see what they are trying to do, and believe it is in the right direction, but eBay fails to note they are not one giant store, but 1000's of small time sellers who are willing to wheel and deal to make a sale. This is obviously an issue when terms agreed on do not match what the listing reads!
