Buyer works for Fedex and wants me to use his account

I have a item up for auction that should bring in about $600 - $700. I was contacted by a potential buyer asking that if he wins the auction I can use his FEDEX account and he would email me an airbill. He said he gets a Deep Discount because he works for FEDEX. If he sends me an airbill with his confirmed Paypal address, is there any risk in this??

He could have the shipment rerouted.

I would never do it on an item of that value.

Is it an item subject to a lot of fraud like high end consumer electronics? If so then be very careful.

If it's an item considered low risk then I'd probably ask that he send a photcopy of his FedEx badge with the airbill. Most large corporations have a 1-800 employment verification system if you want to double check his employment status. If the Paypal name, his badge name and employment verificatiion check out then it's likely pretty low risk.

The other thing I'd look at is how much normal shipping is. If the item is small and light it might not be worth your hassle. If he really is poised to save big bucks on shipping then I'd consider it. Everything is a risk when doing eBay.

Yes, it's a DSLR so very much subject to fraud. The box will probably not be more than 5lbs, and I am adding extra insurance accordingly.

This seems like best advice, or ask for someone tocall to verify from fdx. I know 4-5years ago when I was in school friends did seasonal work sorting for ground and i belive they told me they could send something for 99cents.

short answer: Don't do it unless you are willing to take a $600-$700 loss

5pound package is only going to be $10 why save the $5 and put your self to risk for $600

Never use a buyer's account for shipping especially on feebay.

Many Nigerian scammers use this tactic.

Pay the item with stolen credit card with US address.

Then send you a fedex account number.Fedex don't verify the account during drop off and the scammer re-route the package to Nigeria.

The paypal will be hit with charge back from stolen credit card , ask you for tracking no. since the package is sent to a different address you will loose the claim.

Since you are not the account holder fedex won't allow you even get back the package even though it was not delivered yet.

Fnallly fedex won't be able to collect money from fake account so bill the sender i.e you for fees.If not paid it will be sent to collections since you dropped off the package.

Same with UPS also. These carriers don't verify account no. during drop off and bill the address of the sender if the account was fake.I wish they were more pro-active to prevent this type of scams.

DSLR @ 5lbs that will fit into a $10 Priority Mail Flat Rate box??

In that case there is absolutely no way I'd use his FedEx account.

Tell him you also get very good discounts with your carrier, and that your process is already optimized to process the shipment that way. Offer a $5 discount in shipping. See how he reacts

I suspect fraud also, but isn't there a way to ship and adjust the "bill to"?

I get a 45% discount on Fedex international shipments myself...

Red all you want, but I'm going to represent the other side here.

My employee account gets 30-75% off standard rate. I can have something delivered next day on my employee account for the same or less than USPS, after discount, plus have it insured-- who wouldn't want that? I have done this many times, without any push back from sellers.

Trying to validate his employee status is pointless. Do you know what a legit FedEx badge looks like? Also, a large number of employees aren't badged anyway.

To correct others in the thread, FedEx will only reroute within the same city. This is not the same as Nigerian scams, as those ALWAYS request international shipping. And, we proactively reject shipments bound for Africa all the time. Anything bound for international delivery in countries where there is significant fraud is given a lot of scrutiny.

None of this proves that this isn't a scam, but it isn't as suspect as everyone seems to think.

Absolutely, Positively.

Ask him what his discount would be. Charge him that and pay the rest of the normal shipping yourself.

Simple he lied.

He gets NO Deep Discount for working for fedex, not even management and sales do , they use the corporate account for business packaging and sending which is free since its business related, I know this cause I work for them.

sent you pm jasonweaver...

LOL, no! We are all on the same team. Ultimately, FedEx is a big mashup of a lot of companies, whose employees don't all get treated the same. There are a bunch of people who sweat in FedEx shirts all and get zero discount. tvstickit and I took it out back and hopefully he can start to enjoy the primo discount too.

I know my old fedex ground driver said he got about a 75% discount.

But no do not under any circumstances ship on the buyers account. That is almost 99% scam.

Last year I sold a highly demanded item and buyer wanted me to use his shipping account. I refused and ultimately received a neg fb because of that even though I listed free shipping. Sometimes you just can't win.

Even though as someone said that fedex only re-route within a city that itself will cause loss of paypal protection and buyer will get full money back & will keep item.
