1. I would like some 3-inch wide tape for packaging. Is it available anywhere in B&M stores? I can only find it online. 2. What tape do you like at Uline? I find a bewildering variety and can't make up my mind. For example, they have 4 thicknesses of the Carton Sealing Tape - 1.8, 2.0, 2.6, and 3.5. I have no idea how thick those are.
Its strong and pressure sensative. Its quite a bit different then arcylic tapes but I find them to be more durable overall. I wouldn't buy from Uline tho they are way too expensive. If anything ask for samples of prospected tapes you are looking for, any decent company should be able to send you a sample to visually compare them.
I use Staples tape since it was an easy way to use those $3 ink coupons. They have a wide and standard width tape gun in store, but IIRC their selection of wide tape in store was minimal (online much better).
In my experience, Staples tape has been great - much better than OM junk.

If you mean 3" wide, Staples, OD, and OM do not have it online or B&M as far as I can see.

Each type has some 3", but in general the prices are higher than Uline. Of course Uline has minimum quantity requirements...

I have one place nearby and they are more expensive than Uline, but at least they sell me single boxes at a decent price.

Of course Uline has minimum quantity requirements... Thank you!!! That's what I was looking for. I think the blame goes equally to their poor search engine and my poor search skills. Those minimum quantity requirements are the reason I've avoided Uline so far, since I'm not a huge seller.
It is thin, but none of box fell apart yet, or at no customers complain about it. It is twice the length of most tape and under $2 a roll. I just order $60 worth of them with $10 off and get free next day shipping. We use a lot of tapes...
BTW, don't buy the Office Max brand thin tape... We ordered it once and hated it. It is extremely static sticky.. you will lose the end of tape often even with a tape dispenser.. and it breaks apart easily when you try to locate the end.
EDIT: Oh you want 3" wide tape. I thought you want 3" core tape 2" wide. Do you really need 3" wide tape? 3" wide tape dispenser should fit 2" tapes too.

I live near Chicago so its prob why I can find better pricing on local shipping supplies due to the area is full of places. Also have you considered polypro vs arcylic tapes? If you cover shipping I could send you the assend of a roll of mine. I was really happy with the switch. You can also get them custom printed fairly cheap if you are considering branding.

Thanks, but I'm not a huge shipper and I'm not extremely concerned about quality. Although, I will say I once got some tape that was so thin I had trouble using it. I've gotten tons of good info in this thread, including the fact that the office retailers do carry 3" tape and some ideas on thickness.'
Let me just put all of this in perspective: I've been going to Target once every few months and buying a 6-pack of their cheapest store brand 2" tape.
I use Uline 3" 2Mil Industrial Tape, 110 yards/roll, part number S-445. Its 2.39 per roll in cases of 24 rolls. Plus you get a really nice 3" tape gun with each case.
check officemax. They have a 6 pack of Duck brand 3 inch tape. It is on clearance so ymmv. last I checked the price was $22.50, and IIRC the rolls are 55 yards each. Not sure if it's the same one as the one listed on the omax website.
[edit] Yup, I did find exactly that item at OM. Too bad the dispenser is an additional $9.70. But that seems to be the only 3" tape available at any B&M chain store.
