I have a DHL shipment comming out of Orlando FL.

The truck has been reproted stolen missing for over 24 hrs.

Police have been notifyed .

I have items in this truck for over and above the maximum declared value protection.

I have wedding dresses for a wedding next month.

DHL has advised me that they will pay up to $2000 this claim.

I have $5500 whole worth of Wedding dresses on the truck.

Please advise what to do??

Pray?

Seriously though, are you the shipper or receiver? If the shipper, you are probably out $3000 because the value was under-declared. If you are the receiver and paid someone for these they are on the hook, but if you didn't pay with a CC you may have a hard time getting the money back.

Sue.

Contact local media outlets and tell them your sob story. Maybe DHL will reconsider.

I am the shipper and reciver ;-( grrrrrr

My sales associate never told me there was a cap on the claim of $2000.

This is a busines shipment on my side of paperwork there is no were to put declared value.

I guess I will contact my Attorney because I will not take this type of hit.

What kind of paperwork are you talking about that does not allow you to declare the value? If done online it's one of the input boxes when arranging shipment. If using a standard paper waybill there's a box for entering the shipment valuation.

Because the truck was stolen and the shipment not simply lost, maybe you can persude DHL to cover the full amount, assuming they have insurance coverage themselves by which they can recoup the loss.

Since you chose to underinsure to save money, this is no one's fault other than yours. Additionally, you sound extremely immature when you say you are going to "sue". Sue for what? DHL did nothing wrong. You insured a $5.5k dress for $2k. DHL is willing to pay that $2k. You took a risk and lost. Bet you won't take such a risk next time, huh?

again I had no idear what the full value of insurance was on the package prior to shipmnet it is not in my terms any were this is what my dhl sales rep is telling me.

Had I known in advance I would of not used them for this shipment .

I believe you would probably have to do a special service. Fedex has Custom Critical for high value, sensitive, or special handling needs. I'm not sure about DHL.

The shipper is responsible for the terms and agreements, when they shipped. I've heard of this before, but with Fedex. They automatically processed a claim quickly for the full Declared Value.

You are SOL... that's why there's the "fine print"

DHL will accept declared value up to $50,000. Anthing over $50,000 needs to be approved through DHL. Link

Thanks for the link I will be using this for my claim.

I'm pretty certain the idea of "Declared Value" is that you need to "declare" it BEFORE you ship.

Good luck. Losing shipments suck. My shipment was lost for over 2 weeks and was just recovered today. It'll hopefully be here in the morning and I had declared $2000 when it was really closer to $3000. I dodged a bullet. From now on, I will be OVER-declaring, just in case.

AS for me, the condition I have received packages in from DHL makes my decision to never ship anything of that value with them.
