I'm thinking of getting some boxes that are 18x18x16, and its volume is 5,184; and the shipping companies charge dimesional weight for 5,184 or larger.
So, do they usually charge dimensional weight for packages that are just 5184 cubic inches ?

You are most likely to get charged Dim weights with UPS/USPS/FedEx in that order. UPS uses laser system to measure packages, they're the most tough to beat
This is for domestic shipping right? For USPS, are you planning to ship Parcel Post? For Parcel Post, they don't charge dimension weight for 18x18x16, they charge balloon rate for 20 lb. It is not really that expansive. But if you plan to ship Priority Mail, the dimension weight starts at 1728 cu inches, you would be way over anyway.
I don't know much about Fedex, but if you ship UPS, you are almost guarantee the over charge like CrazierRus said. We get charge oversize all the time even when using boxes slightly smaller than the boundary limit.
Are 18x18x16 the interior dimensions? When I buy boxes the dimensions are normally the minimum interior size. I would buy 18x17x16 or 18x18x15 to be safe.
Also, and this is just my experience, I find 200lb weight boxes that exceed 16x16x16 get pretty flimsy for anything but the lightest of items. I normally buy 275lb boxes for sizes larger than 16x16x16.

I nomrally collect them. When I have had them ship to me they've arrived the next day. All this stuff's probably on their website

Orders before 6pm are shipped same day, delivered next day. Great stuff Check out their website
Look for more local box companies after a little searching I found basically the same stuff for atlest 25% less from a smaller company compared to Uline
Learn from my mistake: Cutting it too close with dimensional weight can cost you dearly.
Specifically, UPS will charge you at the fattest point of the package. That means that if your box is 18 x 18 x 16 but the box is very full and the middle bulge out by .1 inches, you will get scanned at 19 x 19 x 17.
Long story short, I bought 1000 units of an item expecting to just blow them out using no-reserve auctions. Turns out that the boxes were bulging and I was getting nailed by dimensional weight charges. Suddenly, each unit went from costing $8 to ship to costing around $22! By the end of it, I had lost $10k on that product.

ouch... why not switch to fedex? For ground they don't even bother to re-weigh so why would they bother to measure.
