Returned item back to seller but yet to recieve full payment back (Paypal related)

So I won an auction from eBay and returned the item back to the seller three weeks ago because it turned out the item was fake. I did this through paypal because they said the seller agreed to refund me back my money money if I return the item. Three weeks later, paypal recovered $200 for me but there is almost $800 still left on the table. My question is why does paypal have to investigate this issue again when I provided a tracking number and everything indicating that I returned the item back to the seller? Is this process normal? thanks in advance

I believe there may be a limit as to what Paypal can recover. If the seller only had $200 in his account, then Paypal can only recover that much.

Either way, I'd file a chargeback with your credit card.

^ how long does the chargeback work? It's been a while since I purchased this product form eBay. I think it's been over 60 days because I trusted paypal will be able to recover the funds. THe investigation is still going on, but I'm just getting tried of waiting every week for this process to develop.

When you made the purchase, did it say they were covered by PayPal up to $200 or $2000? If it was $200 and the seller cleared out their account, PayPal will not make any more effort to compensate you for the loss, even though they found in your favor. If you used a credit card then it would be appropriate at this point to do a chargeback. (Call the credit card you used for the purchase, tell them the item was returned but you have not been given a refund).

It does depend on the card, but 60 days seems like a long time. Call them immediately!
