We have our TV coupons (expire in August) and we are looking for a decent converter box. It looks like the only ones you can buy with the coupons are low end, basic function boxes. I'll get my two for spares or upstairs tv.

Now, here's my question...Is it worth the money to buy a converter box with DVR functionality? Does anyone own one? How do you like it? The low end ones (like DTV Play 50) would be 60+ bucks for us (coupons don't work) but we would have the ability to record shows.

Don't need an HD tuner, just analog pass thru.

Thanks for you help.

I never heard of a DTV box with DVR. If so, it would be more than $60. Are you talking about a DTV that can record programs?

DVRs are great, and once you have one, you'll wonder how you lived without it.

HandyGuy - yes, I am talking about a DTV that can record (using a DVR function)

Shopliftinginva - Do you have a converter with DVR? You can buy them (supposedly) but you can't use the gov't coupon and they can be pricey.

Hopefully the Echostar (or DTVPLAY) 50 will have DVR function. But it's not coming out til July

No, mine is a DTV DVR. All but one of our televisions are new, and that one is only used for video games.
