I'm going to try to explain this simply.
If you've wanted to save the information on a website then you've
probably done it a variety of ways.
Back in the beginning of the Net the common way was to suck down
the entire or much of the site. Software, one called Pagesucker, would
keep the links working and make them work locally. This way you could
surf the site on your own computer.
I was looking at a forum site last week which is absolutly full of
exactly the kind of information that I'll be wanting to read while
I'm travelling for several days to Europe and Asia.
But in my own mind I could clearly see me reading a PDF file rather than
an HTML saved copy of the pages. I don't know why this was.
I think a few things I do lke about PDF are these.
1. They are zoomable to a very high level without loss of quality.
2. They keep their formatting
3. They might be smaller. I'm not sure about this. The overall data
size should not be a problem unless I'm reading it on a PDA. I've
not thought this through all the way but over the past 20 years I
have really hated my laptops. I'd rather have a very good piece of
paper than a laptop. Maybe this is why I thought 'PDF'.
Next I'd rather have a PDA than a laptop as long as my screen is
clear and big. I have not played with a panel type laptop enough to
know if this is what I want instead of a laptop. I've just begun using
a pen with a drawing pad and I like the interface a lot.
I don't need to jump from link to link, probably. The information is
linear. That is this is all in a forum which is one note after
another.
I'll be writing a kind of book or instruction manual from some of
the information I glean from the forum along with my own observations
and experience. So it doesn't need to be linked.
HAve you used an HTML to PDF converter? Which one?
Why did you use it? What good did you get out of it ?
Thanks for your help and advice. If you have any experience be
sure to say as much as you are able. Remember that not only me and
you are here. Many people visit us from outside the forum and come
in through Gooogle or other search engines. Their choice of which
forums to join are often based on what they perceive in these bits of
experiences they see here.
