I can't find any store selling the modem you are talking about anymore. They don't make it anymore? I am looking for a good external voice modem with speakerphone but I don't know which one is good |

I used USPS Shipping Assistant for Delivery Confirmnmation on about 12 items so far but only half of them are showing confirmation.
Apparently the DC is being ignored my some postal workers.

dragonxp, USR doesn't make the Voice Faxmodem Pro any more, but it's cheaper on eb@y (about $20) than it ever was new ($160). I did some research, and it's basically the best voice modem/speakerphone combo around. (I even bought an IBM 08K3338 mini-PCI voice modem for my laptop-- it didn't work because nobody produces voice drivers for it.)
dealsdude, I've had about 95% of my printed-and-mailed-from-home Delivery Confirmation labels scanned correctly on delivery. One trick that I haven't tried yet is to use a green marker to draw a box around the DC barcode, so that carriers don't accidentally overlook it. Also, I would try sending a batch of packages that are at least 3/4" thick (and without shrunken labels)-- I bet your scan rate will go way up. |

<<Note: If you're feeling bad about wasting some CEO's time over a $20 rebate, check out the definition of fraud:>>
Good point! I don't think they would have a problem prosecuting us if we walked out their store with $20 worth of their merchandise. |

Optmiser is awesome... I love it. I'll be sure to incorporate this strategy from now on.
How many of you people have copiers you use at home for your rebates? Oftentimes I have to go to downtown to a friend's office or else if I'm lazy I just go to a local gas station.
I used to use my scanner but that takes a LONG time. |

An All-In-One is very cool. Printer, scanner, copier are all useful. Make copies of your rebate information and scan copies too for added backup. I'll admit the printing, scanning, and copying seem rather slow, but I guess I'm just used to my office copier that prints uber fast. Definitely get an in-home copier, printer, scanner solution. |

Great info here. Really interested in the Shipping Assistant download. I usually always sent "high dollar" rebates certified. Of course, that's effectively reducing the rebate amount over $2.00.
Is it just for real businesses or do wannabees qualify? |

WOW WOW WOW, what a great and useful post. I have been searching for post like this for a while. Instead of making copies like suggested everywhere, scanning actually makes the paperworks less overwhelming. The USPS assistant software is incredible also. BUMP BUMP BUMP! |

How about adding this tactic: (have not tried myself)
If the rebate does not come within the promised time, file a dispute with the credit card company.
Has anyone tried doing this? |

I read somewhere that a credit card company will not cancel a payment for an unpaid rebate. However, they suggested that you cancel because of a Fraudulent Sale; if you had known they were not going to honor your rebate, you would not have made the purchase.
The time for disputing a credit card charge is limited; I believe it is 60 days from the date of purchase.
See my other post for a detailed plan on how to ALWAYS get your rebates. It requires meticulous record keeping, and some effort, but it is well worth it. Most all companies respond when you explain to them that you will be forced to file complaints with the Attorneys General and the BBBs.

dealsdude said: I reduced my first-class delivery confirmation label to 85% while printing for a nice fit on a #10 envelope and took it up the usps branch and it scanned very quickly.
Don't forget to stick a styrofome peanut or something in it to make it 3/4" (and definatly save your .pdf and print it after you do that first)
I only wish the peanut wasnt necesary. Actually i remember paying .45 for a confirmation on a couple high dollar rebates and the post office guy slapped it on my plain flat letters with no issues at all.
If you guys have DC'd many flat envelopes this way please let us know if they ever came back or can we just put them thru without the thicknes requirement.
It would seem silly for them to enforce that one, since we are really just paying for thickness we dont use. It just makes their job easier ..no? I was told that the reason for the thickness requirement is that it is to ensure that the envelope is handled in a non-standard way to make sure that they scan it on delivery. If you're playing games to try and get around this requirement and finding that your item is not being scanned reliably on delivery, perhaps this is why!
For someone else who asked whether USPS Delivery Assistant is only for companies, the answer is no. Anyone can use it. It's a great program, especially if you ship packages. |

First off, thanks to the OP for all the great tips. That was a hall of fame post in my book.
I've started doing the electronic delivery confirmation and if you don't go to the post office the package won't get outgoing scanned. This is OK if you are pretty sure that it will arrive at the destination before the postmark date. If you're running up against the postmark deadline though, you might want to take it to the post office to get outgoing scanned and get your mailing receipt (a postmark on your e-Label). This way you can prove to the rebate houses that it was postmarked before the deadline even if it arrived after the postmark deadline. Of course, just using the e-Confirmation may be enough to stop the run-around since the rebate house has no idea if you got a mailing receipt or not. If they lie about the postmark date they're committing mail fraud and could be investigated by the postal service. |
