Thanks for the inspiration, OP. I just got off the phone with OfficeMax. The manager is going to give me a gift card for my troubles, no questions asked!

Has anyone got a good contact for Circuit City? I found a fax # of 804-527-4164 on Hoovers.com. Customer service is useless, and the EA in the CEO's office that I've spoken to doesn't return my calls. I figure maybe if I send a short fax with the URL of a public site (Gripelog) where I've posted a story of their fraudulent rebate practices, I'll get some response.

Nice job OP! Thanks

Wow this is an old post. I wanted to give my 3 cents (inflation). Using Delivery Confirmation is really a waste. The amount of time that a rebate submission actually gets lost in the mail is minimal. Much more likely is that they claim that an item is missing, or wrong (copy of UPC). And having proof that the envelope was delivered does nothing to help that. Furthermore, the envelope might have been empty. It's not as much of a waste of money as sending via certified mail (as one rebate article I read suggested) but it may be as useless). The only time it might be handy is with a company known for claiming not to have received your rebate, like IOMagic.

My personal experience in getting rebates that are not being paid is to contact the company themselves (this assumes it is a manufacturer's rebate as opposed to retailer and that you can find a good address to use from their website). I have now had to contact Hawking twice to get my rebates paid, but in both cases, a day after mailing them they had told the rebate house to pay my rebates in the next wave. In the case of Broderbund (another slow payer, they use Parago) I emailed Parago a few weeks ago asking when I would be paid and they gave me the usual "because you are a valued customer BS" and said it would be paid, and it was. Interestingly, I had contact Broderbund themselves last time and got them claiming it was a rebate house issue, even though it was clear that it was not.

I've found that the rebate house typically blames it on the company sponsoring the rebate, and the company typically blames it on the rebate house. Most of the time probably for no other reason than to offset blame elsewhere.

Just reading this post for the first time, found USPS Shipping Assistant interesting. But one glaring oversight (unless I'm missing it) is that you can't PURCHASE the postage! I've looked all through it, yeah, you can print labels, all kinds, but am I right in that you can't PURCHASE through this application, iow, I still have to make a trip to the PO?! Tell me I'm wrong, otherwise it's big thumbs down. I just assume use the Paypal trick, at least I can buy the postage w/ Paypal.

Right, you have to go to the post office to mail the package with SA. In my case, the post office is very convenient (they have them every few miles around here) so it is no big deal going to drop them off. The Paypal service looks interesting, I had no idea you could use it separately from eBay. But you need to have an accurate scale because you're prepaying for the postage.

Bump for a good read!

Found this in the "Contact Us" section in different places:

1. Can I get an acceptance scan for my online label with Delivery Confirmation™ or Signature Confirmation™ service at the retail window?

Online labels with postage paid online should not be scanned at the retail window because information for electronic option confirmation services is sent electronically. This is why there is no fee or a reduced fee. If you would like an acceptance scan at the Post Office™, please relabel the item with a new label, retail confirmation services label and new postage. You can then request a refund online for the unused electronic label postage.

2. Electronic rate Delivery Confirmation (including Click-N-Ship®) may (but is not required to) include the date and time of when it was picked up or accepted for shipment.
Retail rate Delivery Confirmation that is brought into the Post OfficeTM for mailing will include an acceptance scan.

1. says Electronic rate Delivery Confirmation does not get an acceptance scan and
2. says it "may (but is not required to)"

Uhh, ok.
