Staples - "check cleared" ??? Archived From: Rebate Tracking

I have a Stapleseasyrebate Gift Check which has a status of "Check cleared". Has anyone else seen this? I have not yet received it.

Yeah, I've seen this but only after my rebate checks have been deposited.

Not that kind of rebate. I mean on a rebate that comes in the form of a Staples Gift Check.

Yes I also have a status of 'Check Cleared' on my Gift Check rebate from Staples EasyRebates. However, I have not yet received the Gift Check. I emailed Parago about this status but have not yet heard back from them.

same here. 'check was cleared' for one gift check never received, and one rebate check did receive.

Guess what! I got the Gift Check in the mail today. The phone rebate CSR said they mailed it on 12/20. The check is dated 1/10. LOL!

Mine also say 'Check Cleared'. I haven't yet received the check/Gift Certificate.

I called them last time to ask about this.
They said that it's b/c they don't handle issuing these gift checks. They provide this info to a 3rd party (I think back to Staples). So to them, the process has ended so they added that "check cleared" into the remark section. But it's really not sent out until the 3rd party send it out to us.

I recieved an email on 1/22/05 with the subject heading "The check is in the mail! (Really)." I waited and waited, and did not receive the check. Finally, on 2/7/05, I checked the Easyrebates website and saw the status listed as "Check has cleared." I sent an email message saying that I hadn't received the check, let alone cashed it. Yesterday I received a response saying their records showed the check cleared their bank on 1/21/05--a full day before they even sent the message saying the check had been sent.

Sorry to ask, but can you cash a 'Gift Check' or are they the same as a gift card (ie only towards future purchase)?

If the latter, can you use a gift check for online orders or only B&M

Gift Checks can not be cashed and there is no change if your purchase total is less than the value of the check.

Same here. I called CSR as soon as I saw check cleared. It was a huge surprise!!! The CSR gave me same reason, but I still felt not good. How could they do this way? They may list another reasonable status, not give us a shock!!

I had a similar experience with the Web site claiming that the check had cleared when I never received it. Then, to make things more surreal, Parago claimed that I had asked for and been sent a gift CD rather than a rebate, which is ridiculous since (a) the rebate I applied for didn't offer a gift CD as an option, (b) I didn't in fact ask for a gift CD, and (c) their own Web site claimed that I had asked for a check which had already cleared! I made a huge fuss about it, and I finally got both the $10 rebate and a $15 Staples Dollars check to compensate me for my trouble. The whole story is here.
