EDIT: The deal was originally scheduled to expire 6/30 but has been extended through Aug 31st.
Follow the steps below and you can get 6 qts of PENNZOIL PLATINUM (their full-synth) oil and make a couple of bucks after rebate at Advance Auto Parts.
(1)Buy 6 Qts of any weight Pennzoil Platinum oil at Advance Auto. Most likely the cost will be $27.48 plus tax etc. (2)Send for a $15 MIR from Advance Auto (this is NOT a Mfr Rebate). Doesn't need UPC and only requires a copy of the receipt. (3)Here is the kicker. There is also a Manufacturer's rebate from Pennzoil for $15 (its a $15 Mastercard so as good as cash; credit for this rebate to PhDeez). This rebate REQUIRES original UPC (or bottle rings) AND ORIGINAL RECEIPT. A link to this form is posted below but I would recommend getting your hands on an original Pennzoil form. You might find this at Advance itself but you will DEFINITELY find it at Pepboys since they have advertised the Pennzoil $15 rebate in their flyer this week. I got my Pennzoil rebate forms at Pepboys. BTW, the fact that Pepboys and recently Autozone has advertised the $15 mastercard MFR rebate should also help ease any concerns about the validity of that rebate.
So yes, there is a minimal amount of footwork involved but you get paid back not just the price for the synth oil but some more to take care of the tax etc.
And to pre-empt the threadcrappers, let me be the first to post here that Pennzoil uses high-quality Group III basestocks in their Synthetic Oil and some consider this to be not as good as a pure Group IV oil like Mobil 1 etc.

question on oil change.
I'm approaching 3000 miles for my next oil change but I need drive from LA to Philadelphia in a month. Should I just buy oil and pour it in for the mean time and wait to get the oil change right before I go so save me an extra oil change?

Waiting another month is fine, be sure to change it before you go. 3000 mile oil change is a way for oil co. and lube co. to make more money.

Darn you and your west coast deals...we should set up some kind of exchange program ;-...you get me a computer for FAR and ill pick up some motor oil for ya.

Courts + oil companies = getting screwed with no lubrication.
I just checked the forums at Bob is the Oil Guy and most are saying positive comments about the Pennzoil Platinum. Some even saying it may be a "special" product but not enough tests yet. One nice thing about synthetics is you can add 1 or 2 quarts per oil change with your regular oil (same weight- 10/30 10/40, etc) and get added lubrication and protection. Can make your own synthetic blend, just like they sell in the stores.
Oil Filter note- Avoid Fram filters like the plague! Many posts about it at above website. Purolator's are very good and the price is right.

Thanks for the post, OP. I'm in.
The scan of the manufacturer's rebate only includes the front. It says, "See back for details." Could you post a scan of the back of the rebate? I don't have a Pep Boys near me, so I can't get it from there.
Thanks,
Luke

I only have Advance Auto & Autozone in my local area, NOT Pepboys. But the scan form says "Original Offer Form" is required. Any suggestion?

FYI - I did buy this oil in April with the $15 mastercard offer, and that came very promptly. I am not sure if this offer is the same as that one, or a new one, because there was a limit of one per household, if I recall correctly.

Don't overfill your oil pan if you don't want to blow your main seals. I'm guessing that you live in LA and do a lot of stop-and-go-driving where the 3000mi OCI actually makes sense? I don't see a problem with switching to synthetic at your regular OCI - and I think that even with Group III oil under awful conditions, running the Pennzoil for 5000mi would be conservative. Don't forget - oil turns brown from heat cycles, it's not necessarily a signal to change it right away.

I posted about the $15 advance rebate earlier but didn't know about the otehr 415 mastercard rebate. nothing beats FAR. Going to check it out today after work. Btw, this oil can go 7-10K easily (might want to get a high-capacity/oversized oil filter for the longer interval).

Naive question..Does this work for lawnmowers as well?
Does the $15 manufacturer's program include Advance? Sometimes they are only good at certain stores. I hate to sound pestimistic. Just called Autozone to see if they got the $15 rebate forms. The lady told me what they have is a $10 Shell card for a case of Penzoil Platnium. Someone to confirm this info is important to the deal.
How often one needs to do oil change in car. I was under impression of 3000 miles or 3 months. I run about 1000 miles per month and I usually change it at 3000 miles.
Any suggestions?

What does your owners manual say? I doubt it says 3000 miles..
Check quick summary, new Mastercard gift card valid until AUGUST 31, 2005!!! Got it @ pepboys.
NICE DEAL OP!

An Advance uped up by my house a few months back and I did one of these type deals. I was supposed to recieve a $15 gift card for Advance, but they are now showing nothing on my rebate in the rebate search. I called the center and they have no record! I have a scan of all the stuff I sent off at home, so I will call back with the info, but just letting people know my experience so far with AAP rebates.
BTW, Advance also has FAR Valvoline MaxLife Oil Filter & Gumout Fuel Injector Cleaner (I'd go with the FAR Techron at AutoZone, though) this week, at least in my area. link to ad

hey bimmer pilot.. is this oil ok to use in a 3 series bmw? i usually only use mobile 1.. if so, which grade should i use for an e46 non-m? 5w-30?
oscubic said: hm, nothing west of the rockies. I guess it's karma for all those fry's deals that east coast people can't get in on. Well the BVG alleviates that problem to a certain extent. Nothing like having a B&M Fry's closeby though. By the way, thanks OP. Like the title.
I never the got the rebate and call that number. she said i never submitted original receipt. That could not be true. They were going to verify it 2 weeks ago and have not heard anything from them yet. I asked them if I could fax it receipt, they said no.
