Beware: Ximeta and Fry's (outpost) rebate scam Archived From: Deal Discussion

I bought a Ximeta NAS 3.5" harddrive enclosure from Frys.com on Nov 2006. Frys.com advertised a $30 Mfr MIR which went to
Ximeta Rebate Program

it's processed by expressgroup

The rebate form clearly says that "Your sales receipt must be dated between
October 27, 2006 - November 30, 2006. Please allow 10-
12 weeks for receipt of the rebate", after about 10 weeks I called expressgroup and was told they didn't get it and ask me to resubmit. After 3 weeks, I called back and was told the rebate promotion was closed on Feb 09.

The rebate says 12 weeks for receipt but from Nov 30 2006 - Feb 09 2007, that ONLY 9 weeks,

Then I email Ximeta corporation, rebate@ximeta.com and service@ximeta.com, no reply.

I called frys.com 1 800 number, and get a CSR (Elizabeth F) and ask me to email her all the documents, I did that on Mar 16, but didn't hear from her afterwards. on Mar 23, I called Frys corporation, and get a person, that person told me Elizabeth F would call me, then I received email from her saying "I did receive rebate and will review and get back to you". I sent her email on Apr 1 and Apr 3, bt didn't get any reply.

I call frys corporation today but is told by an operator that there is no customer service Dept in the corporate.

He transfer me to another Dept two times, but they all disconnected after few seconds.

Wow... two people make a scam?? Really? How many more got their rebate w/o problem? Me for one. no problem at all. Perhaps if one other person had a good experience, we've found a winner!

I bought this one too on the same promo. I smelled something was not right and returned the product to get my money back. I was asked why returning this product and my answer was the rebate sounded suspicious.

Yes, I just called the number. works fine. Your original post said nothing about calling Ximeta. Keep trying.

and the rebate I did in August 2006 took 106 days and was paid without incident.

I called, Ximeta tells me that Ximeta they handle their rebates after December, for rebate goes to expressgroup, it's not their corporation's responsibility.

Same experience here. There is this girl called miki kim. Found her to be very rude and unfriendly. There is another person, Frank Choi. Looks like an korean company. I really bummed to see so many of us getting burnt with this rebate promises.
I got couple of more of these boxes. I am going to return them back. Dont want to deal with this company agin in the furture.

The Ximeta guys seem to wait until there's an enquiry, and then send out the check. At least in my case, I sent a status request and within a few minutes, got a mail that they're sending out the check. Here's the exchange:

I know this post is really old. I just received a response from the BBB that my complaint went unanswered. However, now there is a dent in the company's record. I am surprised to see that I was the only one who filed a complaint. It's much easier to file a complaint than to keep following up endlessly. So if you do read this, please file a complaint. You can always file complaint after reasonable effort to contact the business. In cases like this that would be one or two unanswered calls. If BBB sees a pattern then, I believe, they inform the DA's office.
