Both of mine are at Step 4 now "Check mailed"

Woohoo!

If you get a denial take it direct to Mark Hurd - HP CEO:

Wow, mine is mailed too (Step 5 on Web Rebates)

"Your rebate has been processed
A check for $65.00 was mailed to you."

Error(s): Our records indicate that the product purchased reflected a promotional rebate or special pricing.
Mailing out the complaints. They are gonna pay for this, the hard way. I am gonna send a bunch of HP products to return if they don't resolve.

Robbery in broad daylight.

When you post, please indicate when you bought the printer, where you bought the printer and what promo # was used. The current promo (S104) does not have the "special pricing" clause but they do have a clause that says "reseller promotions" may invalidate the rebate.

I'm trying to determine a pattern based on promo # and/or retailer.

alert mods

I purchased mine from Newegg, offer #2502.

My status has been updated now to "NonCompliance Determined" step with NonCompliance Information to be mailed out.

alert mods

I submitted two of these rebates. One (purchased at Amazon) was approved; the second, purchased at Quill, has been labelled "noncompliant" due to "promotional rebate or pricing". Will have to dig out the rebate copies I made to check the promo number. Pretty sure I used the same form for each.

Do you think he cares? I just call and my is denied due to "Special Price". I don't know what to do now.

Good luck. I think HP would loose in court. How's a reasonable and prudent consumer going to know what "special pricing" is since HP didn't adequately define it. HP designed the promotion and the burden was on them to spell it out on the rebate form T's and C's. (they should have simply specified a min. purchase price - it's done all the time). Ambiguous terms usually result in victory for the plaintiff.....

UNLESS the resellers that were selling the HP 1018 for around $80 state there is a rebate for this printer, it would be common sense to conclude that this is special pricing -- when other resellers are selling the same printer for much higher prices and show a rebate for the printer. If you then decide to take a chance on the rebate -- even though it was not advertised with the $80 printer -- then it is your choice. And shouldn't be whining when it turns out to be wrong!!!

[BTW, I don't work for either HP nor any resellers.]

Your rebate has completed the first 3 of 4 steps
A check for $64.50 has been approved and will be mailed to you soon.

I bought mine from Futurepowerpc.

The thing that I'm most curious about is how the statements from the rebate center reps pan out against the final verdict. It's a little hazy, but I remember CSRs saying something about Amazon and Buy.com being okay, but Staples, Newegg and Circuit City would be rejected. Maybe- this has been talked about a LOT. If I had a few hours to spare, I'd cross reference the successes/rejects in this thread against all the CSR promises made in previous 1018 threads.

My general feeling has always been that rebate CSRs have no idea what they're talking about (like the majority of CSRs in the business world). The way this is playing out, though- they might have been correct.

It would be a LOT easier to track if there weren't multiple offers and if this promotion didn't occur a few times over the last few months (it's even occurring as we speak).

As far as the current promotion is concerned... HP must be a bunch of idiots to being doing this over again. And any FWers taking the plunge... at this point, with all that we know now... even bigger idiots.

Even with a victory, this is the last isolated rebate for me. If the rebate is not on the web page next to the item, forget about it. This is just way too much grief.

My opinion of HP has always been relatively neutral. Needless to say, after this, it's dropped substantially.

My updated status(if it helps anyone):
"I bought mine from AmazZon on 7-29-07, received it 8-1-07, and sent the rebate 8-16-07."

Today(per WebRebates site) my status is in step 4 and shows my check of $65 approved, and will be mailed shortly.

"Good luck to ALL of us, and lets keep this thread going until everyone gets their rebates(except that greedy person who bought 10 printers)."

I bought mine from Buy.com on ~06/02. It was shipped on 06/22. I sent the rebate in on 06/27. Now the rebate is denied. Online tracking showed that it was due to "special pricing". Called HP this afternoon and was turned down again. The CSR said that all purchase under $129 is considered to be "special pricing". I'm thinking about BBB now. Any suggestion?

If you then decide to take a chance on the rebate -- even though it was not advertised with the $80 printer -- then it is your choice. And shouldn't be whining when it turns out to be wrong!!!Retailers can and will sell below MSP for reasons other than an manufacturers' offer. How is the consumer to know what is a "special price" if it is not somehow detailed?

What does "special pricing" mean? Does it mean an HP financed price (i.e. an instant rebate) or does it mean any sale price offered by the retailer? Or does it mean both. I took it to mean the first.

Reasons why I believed it was a CC price:

First, while I do not have a screen shot of the product page on my purchase date, archive.org has the page for the previous day. No mention of an instant rebate or any HP price incentive and I do not recall there being any such mention on the day of purchase (and I purchased it on a Wednesday so it was not a change of ad issue).

Second, look at the text of the pop up on the page of the HP LJ 1018 at CircuitCity.com now. It states:
This item has been placed in your cart to show you our low sale price. Manufacturers occasionally suggest that products be advertised at their suggested retail price. If we decide to sell items for less than the suggested price, the sale price is shown in your cart.In otherwords, this is CC's sale, not HP's. Again, I do not have a screen shot from the day of purchase but I believe it was the same.

Third, in rebate form 2502, the sentence including "special price" reads:

"This offer may not be combined with Big Deals, education rebate or other special pricing."

Since "Big Deals" and "education rebate" are HP financed, I assumed "special pricing" would be HP financed as well.

So, if "special pricing" means HP financing of the offer which is a reasonable reading of the sentence, then the lack of any mention of HP involvement in the sale price especially with an explicit statement that the sale price is CC's responsibility, would lead one to believe that the rebate would be paid.

That's my story anyway ....

Got this email from HP just today:
Thank you for participating in the LaserJet 1018 $64.50 MIR (50% off) promotion.

We have received and processed your mail-in submission and have confirmed your eligibility. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks to receive your award.

I bought from AMOF and submitted both 50% MIR. I got a letter back from one of them saying you can only be eligible for one, and now this, so it looks like I'm getting my $64.50.

I got a denied mail from HP for the rebate.

"Our records indicate that the product purchased reflected a promotional rebate or special pricing"

I bought 1018 from Newegg and submitted 2502 rebate form .
