I'm starting this thread to track if CompUSA is still fulfilling their rebate obligations. As you know they are going out of business. There is is a good chance we may never see our rebates. If it appears they stopped issuing checks or their debit/credit cards you may still have a chance getting you money back from your credit card company while CompUSA's doors are still open.

Please post if you received you rebate and approximate time you submitted it.

Quick Summary
CompUSA E-REBATE Strategy?

1. Cancel any orders that are still being processed?
2. Refuse delivery on orders that can't be cancelled?
3. Return everything that you can?
4. Accept a Prepaid Visa or Visa Virtual Prepaid Card delivered in 2-3 weeks in lieu of a creque in 8-9 weeks?

ANSWERS
1. Just cancelled an order. Phoned 1800COMPUSA. Got a live agent with difficulty. Was told worryingly that the refund would hit my credit card in two to four weeks. Initial payment was made through Google Checkout. Can I, should I, attempt an AMXEX charge back?
2. See Shipping and Return Policies below. Further note that they will happily leave stuff on your door step.
3. See Return Policy below.
4. ?

CompUSA's Shipping Policy:

MANUFACTURE vs CompUSA REBATES
Supposedly e-rebates starting with 00 are from CompUSA and are consequently most exposed.

I submitted a $100 one for an HP laptop on 10/21. Status is: Qualified - Your rebate is approved and awaiting vendor funding. Needless to say, no check yet.

Most CompUSA erebates are manufacturer funded, not CompUSA. There's a discussion about this in the main thread. I just got a rebate from the old system from Kaspersky. I am waiting for a pair of Kaspersky rebates from the new system as well as one from Honestech, but all seem to be manufacturer (offer # starts with 2).

If you bought any of the FAR networking stuff this week you could have reason to be concerned as those were CompUSA funded.

Data entry is OK.

And they have many new eRebates effective this week, beginning 12/9. Putting these rebates out after the 'shutting down' announcement indicates they intend to fulfill. I have $230 in outstanding eRebates from the recent networking equipment deals and I'm not too worried. But I will be monitoring them closely.

Totally agree. If they put out new CompUSA sponsored eRebates this week knowing these will not BE fullfilled, then that is FRAUD.

So that is really good news for us with large $ of outstanding CompUSA sponsored eRebates!

I'm not quite sure I would call it fraud since it was probably too late to stop it (or else the new owners forgot to). That said, it would certainly be wrong not to pay them.

I just got the approval for the recent FAR erabtes/google deal. Shows as 1 rebate will be a check and 3 others will be prepaid credit card. Hope they all go through. I heard about the shut down, but assumed the rebates were going to be fulfilled by a 3rd party. Doesn't seem so...Dang!

Goodbye FatCash also?

My rebates still show as On Hold.

The press release made it sound like the website will remain operational. Does anyone think that indicates the the rebates will be honored?

EDIT: My order still hasn't been processed either, which worries me since it was placed on 12/5. I'm seriously considering cancelling quickly before it does go through.

Stolen from SD Post: -

My wife would have killed me if my $1000 outstanding eRebates got toasted!

UPDATE: I finally got through to CompUSA Corporate after a near 2 hour on hold wait. I was told by corporate that the rebates will be honored and then I had them forward me to their corporate rebate department and they also told me that the rebates would be honored. Caveat emptor... If your erebate.CompUSA.com rebate has any issue I would get right on it and find out what the problem is just in case it has something to do with CompUSA closing regardless of what all the CompUSA folks have said.

Tried to call and cancel and they said "We are unable to answer your call at this time, please try your call again later"

Scary stuff... I went ahead and sent the cancel email through Google checkout so we'll see if that gets any response and then I'll "try my call again later"

Got a email from CompUSA erebate regrading the rebate issue:
"Dear Customer, Thank you for shopping at CompUSA and visiting erebates.CompUSA.com. This email is in response to your inquiry or visit to erebates.CompUSA.com CompUSA has announced they will be closing their stores, but as of today, all rebates on purchases made in the past and through today are valid and we expect them to be paid by CompUSA and the vendors doing business at CompUSA. Thank you for shopping at CompUSA, eRebates Special Services"

No useful information at all. It is time to return everything with rebate.

That's good news, I hope it's true. I have a large number of pending e-rebates.

Via the consumerist, CompUSA has posted a consumer help site

One of the items references rebates, and says that all rebates prior to December 12th will be paid. Which is a relief to me, since I have several hundred dollars outstanding thanks to all the FAR networking stuff.

Rebates. All rebates issued before December 12, 2007 will be honored. All rebates included in any running advertisement will also be honored. All manufacturer’s mail in rebates will be honored directly by the manufacturer as usual, provided that the instructions are followed by the customer.
