I know that in previous years Norton has allowed 3 upgrade rebates per promotion. However i noticed that late last year and this year Fry's upgrade rebate forms are saying something like:

$20.00 Competitive Upgrade Rebate valid from 2008-01-23 to 2008-01-31

However if you pre-submit, its using an offer number thats vaild during a 1 year period. So is there still the 3 rebate limit? Say you mail in the actual form that says something like "Offer is good for purchases made between 01/23/08 and 1/31/08". Has anybody gone over the 3 limit this year? Are they unlimitied this year? Thank in advance

I believe the limit is still 3 for each offer number. As you said, they are using the same rebate offer numbers for the whole year, but now each PDF rebate form lists only specific purchase dates and a specific retailer. This is similar to they way Iolo rebates have been done in the past. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Symantec upgrade rebates is that they always come back with a "invalid - missing proof of previous ownership" message so you have to contact them to get the status changed from invalid to valid.

It's easy enough to call the Symantec rebate center and simply ask them "what is the household limit for this rebate". Sadly, it's not that easy to get a real person anymore, they have made the menus more difficult, but once you get through they will tell you.

Probably asked before, but regarding step #5.

5. Enclose proof of previous ownership of a stand-alone, retail (boxed or downloaded) version of any Norton™ or Symantec™ software or another company’s antivirus, firewall, antispam, antispyware, utility, or back up software product by furnishing either a copy of the previous product’s CD, first page of manual (usually titled “User’s Guide”), or your confirmation email from your previous download purchase.

What is meant by "a copy of the previous product’s CD"?

Simply a photocopy, a burned copy or the original copy?

Photocopy.

That they want you to make an illegal copy of a copyrighted CD, then when you send it in, someone will put it in a computer and check to see that it is in fact that illegal copy (which is probably illegal for them to use).

Now, do you think that is even a reasonable thing to ask?

I believe it is 3 also. I might have called them to ask and I think I was told it was 3. Has anyone done the fourth one and got rejected? My experience with the missing proof of previous ownership is that you automatically get denied if you send the copy not the original of the cd or title page. All of my submission with originals were approved when they received them.

I just got my fourth Systemworks Premier upgrade rebate approved. They did the standard "missing proof of upgrade" rejection, then when I emailed an inquiry they did the standard "you're a valued customer" approval. We'll see if I actually get the check.

Got the check today. In the spirit of the occasion I sent in a fourth 07-76074 Norton Internet Security upgrade submission a week or two ago and it's showing as valid, they didn't even do the usual "missing proof of upgrade" rejection.
