It is a shame that somebody stole my card and tried several times before he finally cashed my card. I was asked to file a fraud affidavit, is there a good chance to get my money back? Anybody has done this before?

Unfortunately, you're screwed. I've done thousands of dollars of rebates and the two I've lost over the past year are not due to rebate companies not sending out...somebody cashed those checks. I was in the middle of a move, so I can see how somebody just took my check and cashed it. One was large...$250 large. Count yourself lucky that it's only a Norton rebate...which at most is probably $60. If you try to pursue this, you'll find yourself spending way more time and effort to no avail. Rebate company is not responsible if they have the rebate check number and address they sent it to. I'd just count it as a loss and move on...sorry.

Cash your check? How they can do it with your name on it?

And yes...other people CAN cash your check even if you have your name on it. Do you really think banks check the back of the check for signatures to see if they match and whatnot? I've cashed my brother's check before...its really just like cash.

I would NOT just move on. That would be allowing a criminal to steal a gift card in your name and cash it! This is fraud. You don't turn the other cheek when someone steals, you report it.. even if you can't recover your loss in the end.

I, myself, would be such a nightmare to the rebate company for not being able prove I RECEIVED AND USED the gift card myself they would get me another. I'd be talking to the Post Office, BBB, FTC, Consumer Protection, etc. Hell, once I was upset with the city for not taking care of something on my street they were told was dangerous several times. I sent off e-mails and THREE TV news crews came out to do the story. Mayor was not happy and problem was fixed.

Amazon once sent me a rebate in the form of a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate. I found the GC code invalid. I phnoe Amazon and they said that the GC code had already been used, and they knew it was not by me. Still they refused to replace it! BBB, State Attorney General Office, etc were unable to get Amazon to budge.

update: called Symantec Rebate again and their corporate office, no feasible resolution yet except for waiting. It seems I am going to say farewell to my dear $60.
