Does anyone here do the rebates with Rite-Aid? Most the time they have where you can get some stuff free. I just started trying them. They have where you can submit your rebate online, but I've had some problems with the last 3 rebates with them saying the receipts don't match their records. They then ask you to copy the receipt, UPC# and mail it all in. I did all this and after a few emails I finally got my rebates, only to discover they aren't real checks. I usually do Walgreens and never had a problem with them sending out the checks or cashing them in any bank, so I'm a bit disappointed Rite-Aid isn't trying to keep up.

I tried cashing the Rite-Aid's rebate at my bank and the rebate checks have "Use on your next Rite-Aid, Eckerds, or Brook store purchase!" so my bank says they can't be cashed. They look like real checks with a routing number, check number and where you sign on the back. Nowhere on their site clearly states these are store checks. Some of the things I wouldn't have really bought if they didn't have the rebate, I could of bought them cheaper or on sale elsewhere; so it was a waste of money to me. Does anyone know if this is just my bank not cashing these or are they really not checks and are just for store use?

Are you receiving pink "postcard" checks? That is what they send. I received 2 of the normal pink postcard checks last week.

(pause to grab check)

The check does say "Use your check toward any purchase at a Rite Aid, Brooks, or Eckerd location!". I hadn't noticed that before, but I did know that you could "cash" it (use as payment) at Rite Aid.

Your bank is the problem; it's a real check.

Is the verbage on the checks something new or have they always said that? I have always deposited mine in my checking account with no problems so maybe this wording about having to spend the money at the store is new.

I first noticed the verbage on the checks last month. I haven't had any problems depositing them into my checking account. My Mom hasn't had any problems with her bank either.

This is new to me as well. Didn't really see the the wording OP mentioned. Have deposited those checks couple of days ago. Will see what happened. Thanks for the info, OP!

The checks have said that you can use toward your next purchase for quite some time.

I have never used one of their checks toward my next purchase. I have always taken the check to my bank and deposited it. Your bank is in the wrong here. I suggest just depositing it through the ATM, though you could waste a lot of time complaining if you want.

The irony is if you pass off a fake check on the bank, the bank will get you back with many fees, etc. It is not the teller's call as to whether or not a check is fake or not.

I can assure you that these checks are not fake.

I have never faced any problems depositing RA checks

There are magic words which generally make it a check. They are: "Pay to the order of" followed by your name. My May Rite Aid check was cashed by my bank and I have not received June yet...

I am just seeing this thread. I have done Rite Aid Single Check Rebates every month for over a year and normally get about $20 - $50 a month back via check. As others have said, your bank is VERY mistaken. I am actually stunned they turned you away. My biggest check last year for $88 for a month!

These are "postcard checks" that you do need to keep an eye out for because they could slip between pieces of mail. However, I have always deposited mine in my bank and never had any issues. They are smaller than a regular business check and CAN be used TOWARD a purchase at Rite Aid, Brooks, or Eckerd locations but you can cash them also.

Rite Aid did alter that wording a while ago, maybe when they bought Brooks and Eckerd. I have never used my check at a store as they suggest. However, I deposit all my checks via ATM so it's not like I am handing them to a teller, not that it matters. It's still a legal check like any check. Of course, Rite Aid would LIKE you to spend that check in their store. No thanks, I use it to make sure the free items are indeed free.

I do want to comment on your note about Rite Aid's online system sometimes telling you you didn't buy the right item. This is NOT uncommon and has been discussed elsewhere on the web too. You do need to be careful in their stores as they do sometimes put the rebate tags on the wrong items. However, if you do battle with them they will pay the rebate. I think I made about $650 last year from Rite Aid rebates and only about $30 was stuff I had to argue them on to get paid. Not bad.

Thanks, OP. I also noticed the crap Rite Aid morons did but went ahead and deposited it into an ATM. It went trought with out any problem, but I am receiving some other junk mail that looks axactly like a check with pay to the order of me some thousands of dollars, millions of miles and has small print some where saying it is actually not a negotiatiable paper. Also I am receiving junk that looks exactly like a bill with a payment due day demanding money from me for their would be service that has small print hidden among lenghty T&C saying this is an advertisement, not a statement.

I'm new to the Rite Aid rebates, but have been able to deposit my checks with no problem. One problem I do have is that they have many items that they advertise as free after rebate, but I only get about 1/2 or 1/3 of the rebates. I have just been checking to see which items they give the rebate for & just returning what they don't. Is there any other way to deal with this?

Is there any other way to deal with this? You have to double and triple check that you buy the correct item. Don't go by the shelf tags; shelf tags and items are often misplaced. Compare the item that you purchased to the description in the rebate book.

Welcome aboard and Good Luck!

Do you get money back if you use it in store on a lower priced purchase?

Never tried, but my best educated guess in "no." Anyone actually give it a try -- having them, in essence, cash your rebate check in store? I highly doubt they would do it...just deposit it in your bank account. That is the best way.
