I have purchased this laptop few years back, but never used it. I started using it this weekend after crash of my previous laptop and facing the following issues.

1. After some usage, it's unable to recognize/locate nearby wireless networks including mine. Laptop still active and I am able to continue work offline. Icon on system tray says limited access to my network.

2. Sometimes, mouse touchpad is not responding after some usage.

3. Sometimes, mouse touchpad and keyboard are not responding after some usage.

Not consistent how soon any of these problem appear, but it happened anytime between as soon as starting the computer up to couple of hours.
Problems get resolved temporarily after reboot, but keep on reappearing.

System details:
Lenovo Thinkpad Z61, T2300, 1.67 GHz, 32 bit OS, 4GB RAM (3GB operational)
Windows Vista Business
Still catching up all windows updates, installed a lot of updates, but still not over. Installed SP1 and SP2
Installed AVG Antivirus FREE version
Installed browsers : ie, firefox and chrome. mainly using firefox or/and Chrome
Memory upgraded from 1GB to 4GB, but the problems were pre-existing the upgrade.

Appreciate any help. Also let me know if any additional info is required.

Go to Lenovo site and update wireless and touchpad drivers to latest version level.

Do not ever update hardware drivers directly from Microsoft. They often select the wrong version, and it can be painful/ difficult / nearly impossible at times to resolve this

Do you have an external keyboard and mouse? I'm wondering if the internal touchpad/keyboard are not responding or if the PC is locking up.

try to reinstall all the drive, that might be software problem

I think I am done with catching up all Windows update. Last night, I was able to use it 4+ hours without any trouble.

I want to see if the problem is solved or not and want to keep it in watch list for next 2/3 days before I upgrade the drivers in the weekend as suggested by ellory.

Lost internet connection last night after usage of just 5 minutes. So I went ahead and installed the latest versions of drivers for Wireless LAN and and Keyboard/Mouse. Will update you the status after some usage.

My laptop is now stable. No further problem so far. Thanks for your help ellory and minidrag.

Do you guys recommend other driver updates like BIOS?

Here is a list of available updates:
BIOS
Bluetooth and Modem
Chipset
Display
Networking: Ethernet
Networking: WWAN
Optical drive
Patch
Power management
Security
Software and Utility
Storage
ThinkVantage Technology
USB device
Video

I usually only update a lot of that if I have a problem, otherwise I leave it alone.

I have had several ThinkPads, and a few times have had problems with the ThinkVantage software
using excessive memory or CPU cycles. This is a known problem for certain versions of ThinkVantage,
and an update will fix that problem.

That's a lot of updates. If you just got things working I wouldn't mess with them for now. Keep the system as is for a while. Then, maybe do 1 at a time, leaving time in between for testing to make sure nothing breaks. The ones I would be most interested in doing are Security, Chipset, Video and Display.

Well guys, while wireless problem is resolved, hanging problem still popping up now and then. No, the keyboard or mouse is not freezing, the laptop is freezing/locking. This is happening only when I am plugging the laptop back to power supply after long usage with battery. No problem when I am directly connected to power supply or on battery or switching from power supply to battery or when I am switching back to power supply after short duration on battery. I updated the driver related to power supply, but the problem still persists.

nvm...

You should start a new thread for the HP so the title will fit the issue and people won't have to read all the stuff about the other PC to help with this new issue.

done.
Any suggestion for power management issue?

If you started a new thread, I'm not seeing it. Can you put a link to it here?

What are your power management settings? And, just to confirm, you having installed the latest power management utility?

I have not opened a new thread yet for HP desktop issue. Just removed that problem from this thread. Will do that later.

yes, I installed the latest power management driver from Lenovo.

How to check power management settings?
I checked power options under control panel which is set to ThinkPad default.

I have also installed latest driver for Power Manager couple of days baqck. It says -"Congratulations! Your current power configuration meets industry recognized green standards."
