phone distrubing interweb connection?

Starting not too long ago, there have been a number of times when our DSL modem has seemingly lost the connection.....sometimes it would come back after a minute or so, otherwise it would come back after turning off and on.
(There has also been quite a bit of static on the phone line going back a few months.)
I didn't think much of it, but the frequent interruptions are getting annoying.

As far as I can tell it's not the modem. Could one of the connected phones be causing the interference?
Is it the service? (AT&T)

they should....wouldn't they be really bad otherwise?

edit - I can pick up the phone and it will cause the modem to lose the connection...

A filter could have gone bad. Or you could have a line issue. Have you or the phone company done any tests? (Packet loss, retransmits, latency. etc)

no

You should give them a call. It is quite possible the issue is outside the house in which case it is up to them to fix it.

Or an issue with the DSL modem. They should be able to do remote diagnostics to provide some insight

Note: It may be easier and faster to report online

will try and give the modem a cleaning....would like to kill the service all together but there doesn't seem to be any other service in the area
