Don't forget to update the links for HiJackThis.
The correct address for the author's home page is Merijn http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/
The Download link where you'll always get the newest version is HiJackThis http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
The is no real "Official" HiJackThis Forum. But TomCoyote is a partner of the Spyware Info website and of the HiJackThis Author, Merijn. The Spyware Info Forums are the number one authority on removing all sorts of parasites and is the place you want to post your HJT (HiJackThis) Log when you need help.
Here is a HiJackThis Quick Start web page which will provide you with all the information needed about HJT.
HiJackThis is a powerful tool and you should never try to fix anything yourself with this tool unless you are directed to do so by someone who really knows what they are doing. I am one of those people. |

4deals....
If you followed my instructions to read the first thread of this forum and did followed the instructions there, you will have no problem getting the help you need.
This thread here by CompSurfer does not tell you how to go about removing such parasites as this thread is nothing more than a bunch of useful tools with individual explainations of what each is for.
The first thread of this forum deals specifically with the removal of these parasites and other which is why it is the very first thread in this forum.
CompSurfer only changed the titel of this thread to say "The Official Thread" after I notified him that both our threads had been made into sticky threads.
If you really want help, then I would suggest that you follow the instructions I provided to you earlier in reply to your request.
But you need to go back to the first thread to be able to read my reply. |

I agree. I've PM the mods to this effect. If you agree, PM them as well, and perhaps we can get them to remove the sticky on this thread.

Spybot and AdAware are very good programs but they don't get everything check out Pest Patrol and see how much is still there after you run those two.
Good Luck |

PestPatrol, while it is a good program can and will pick up a lot of false positives or as I should say, it'll report legitimate items as being bad.
So this program is more for an experienced user who knows what's what with the system internals.
But then again, there is a lot of stuff that PestPatrol will not pickup either.
If you get any serious parasites, the best thing you can do is to carefully follow the directions in the first thread. |

Download.com has every king of program you need & you can download & try them out. They are freeware or shareware programs. Adaware is there it should be able to handle those hijackers. |

No single program can handle the different hijackers and other parsites that are out there.
That is the reason for the first thread in this forum.
Over the past year, many HiJackers and other parasites have evolved through the efforts of the programmers to make them as difficult as possible to remove. They have been trying to twine the parasites into the system, change permissions and do a whole lot of other stuff to make them near impossible to remove.
The majority of new parasites out there require trained personnel to remove them or to at least talk you through the process of removing them.
Do not fool yourself on this issue.
Check the Spyware Info Forums and you will get an eyeful and you will learn what is going on out there. |

I think we need to start the "Top 50 Answers to Stupid (or Common) Computer Questions"
Nothing to do with this thread...just an observation from most of the threads posted lately. |

Placing it inside this thread is more akin to "Preaching to the choir", no? |

This thread gets a lot of action and is frequented by some of the most knowledgable members, I figured they would be more likely to see it here than a new thread, which would be cluttered with people asking questions. |

i found this thread to be very informative and helpful, I myself use most of the suggested software to maintain my comp too. On a side note since there are so many knowledgeable people on fatwallet I was wondering if some who knows about windows' maintenance and settings could make a official thread to help fellow fatwalleters maintain their windows os so that it is at its maximum performance. |
