gotit said:NONE OF THE SUGGESTIONS HERE RECOGNIZE YAHOO'S "Web Beacons". HOW DO WE KNOW IF THIS IS SPYWARE IS ACTIVE?
From another post:
Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going, similar to cookies.
Yahoo is recording every website and every group you visit. Take a look at their updated privacy statement: Yahoo (http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy) Here's how to opt out!!!
About half-way down the privacy statement page, in the section on cookies, you will see a link that says web beacons.
Click on the phrase web beacons. That will bring you to a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network." In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that will let you opt-out of their new method of snooping.
Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted.
Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page.
DO NOT hit the "Cancel Opt-out" button ... if clicked, it will *undo* the opt-out. Feel free to forward this to other groups or folks you know have Yahoo accounts Yahoo
Thanks for the info. I don't have anything to hide but I prefer to keep my surfing habits private. I also don't want people falling me around everywhere I drive during the day or looking in my window at my house just to check out my daily routine. |

I've been using both the free Panda Active Scan and Symantec Scan in additions to AntiVir which was installed on my PC. Lately, during Panda Active Scan download, I've been received a warning of 'Micro-128 virus' in one of the downloaded files' so I denied the file. As a result, when I retried the scan, the message returns "no virus' but the scan panel didn't show that any files have been scanned whereas before, the scan took awhile to scan the hard drives and email files. I used Sygate firewall and Antivir Guard. Have anyone experience the same problem or have any idea on what's going on with my scan? |

When you have an actively running AV program and you try to run another such as an online scanner, your AV program may give you a false positive because of the database files for the other program.
Such as if you have SpyBot Search & Destroy on your system and you run TrojanScan, you'll get a bunch of false positives because TrojanScan will detect the SpyBot database files.
So it's very possible that Symantec falsely detected one of the Panda ActiveScan files. |

Lol, great post. But if you find there is a site that you really need to use but is riddled with spyware, it is quite useful to visit www.stompsoft.com ; quite useful |

From the download site: SysSafe Monitor is temporarily not available from our site. Please check back within a couple days. You can try to visit the home page of the software company: http://maxcomputing.narod.ru/
Usually if a program can't be downloaded, it's usually because the site it's from has exceeded it's bandwidth allowance for the month which means you would have to wait until they get more bandwidth allotment the following month.
Other times there can be such problems as server or network trouble.
If there is problems trying to download a program, you should contact someone from the website the program is from. |

Hail D-Lore, Well it a took thread list like this to inspire me to sign on and post, hope you don't mind a small pump for the Intermute Program, I am sure "they" won't. Anyway I have been using various combinations of several of the above mentioned programs, and I got to say the SpySubract program offered up by Intermute is very solid ! I had a free trial of the pro and noticed how it really did the job that combination of at least 4 other programs could not accomplish together. Then I let that lapse and noticed how their basic free program differed to the pro and agreed the pro version is worth the extra donation because of its ease of use, thorough and informative ability to keep off what you tell it to keep off! Now I have used, and still do, combinations of several free and pay progams, and I must say I have unwittingly spent much more on programs that claim to do more, but in reality accomplish much less, so I say without hesitation that the offer of $14.95 is well worth the service provide with this tasty little program !

Suggest that you start a thread on this. Please post back with details (see the first sticky for what's needed). Please be sure to describe if you're doing an online scan (and if so, what website address and browser/version) or program (and if so, version #,etc) |

This is the third HiJackThis analyser I have seen and the security forums are well aware of these analyzers. The first one appeared last year in Germany.
The reason I have not added any of them to the article above is very simple. These analysers while they are well intentioned, are not all they are cut out to be. They can not yet replace the trained eye of someone who is trained to use HiJackTHis and other tools to diagnose and reapair your system.
There are many items these analysers will miss.
Many security forums while being aware of these analysers, do not recommend the use of them. Although they do keep an eye on these analysers and periodically do run tests to see how well these analysers have progressed.
Because of the situation, I have no plans to add any of the HiJackThis analysers to the above article any time soon.
My personal feelings about this is that once AI (artificial intelligence) technology gets added to the equation, then these analysers may actually be worth using.
But in the mean time, I recommend that users stay with posting their HiJackThis logs to the listed security forums until such time as these forums start advocating the use of such analysers. Once they do, this will mean that the technology has progressed enough to be acceptable. |

Dragon's Lore, I apologize for linking something I thought might prove useful to the average PC user. Having seen other such analyzers myself, I thought this one at least worthy of consideration. The info it provided for my system (which is as near totally clean as possible and not much of a test) was completely accurate. As a person that has merely fought spyware on an almost daily basis on other people's machines for a couple of years, I certainly appreciate the expertise of some participants at forums such as Wilder's but do not completely dismiss the value of such a quick and useful analysis as this one provides.
This is most definitely your thread so your judgement reigns supreme.

I have no problem with your posting the link to the analyser.
It's just that most people who encounter this tool do not realize that it's not ready for Prime Time yet.
When I see that the security forums openly start advocating the use of these analyzers, then I will add a section devoted to the various HiJackTHis analysers out there instead of linking just one of them.
In this forum, there are three stickies for helping other users.
- 1st) Guidelines for requesting assistance
- 2nd) SpyWare (and other parasites) Removal
- 3rd) General Maintenance of your system
Spyware analysis and removal should not be a part of the 3rd sticky. But at the same time, some of the general maintenance tools are listed in it.
The 2nd sticky (this thread) deals specifically with the removal of such parasites including various tools used for this purpose. |

ohsexygirlfriend - your best bet is to read DragonsLore's first post in this thread. If you've done all the other steps, then the next step is to download HiJack this, run it, and save the log file.
Then to paste the logfile in one of the recommended forums and wait for an expert to help you |

Sometimes that does happen unfortunately because of how swamped they get. This is why I recommend interested users join the boot camp so they can learn enough to help others.
If you post over at the Spywareinfo Forums, in the Malware Forum, read the sticky from PGPhantom, also read a few of the other important stickies. |
