I spoke with a moderator and since we can't talk about WebMon in the official PS3 Pre-Order thread in Deal Discussion then we should have a specific thread dedicated to WebMon considering that it is one of the key tools to being able to snag a hard to find item when it comes in stock online. In this thread people can post whatever updated configuration files they have found or other info and people can also ask for help in setting up WebMon if they need to. Also feel free to link to any other tools or sites that you might have found which would serve the same type of function as WebMon.
WebMon
WebMon is a freeware web page update monitoring program - it saves you time and keeps you updated by automatically checking web pages to see if they have changed.
Some of its features include:
* Checking an unlimited number of web pages. * Scheduling automatic checking at set intervals. * Optional pop-up alerts and sounds when updates are found. * Running other programs when updates are found. * Selecting which part of the web page to check. * Update logging. * Proxy support, with authentication. * Unintrusive tray icon when minimised. * Importing IE favorites and Netscape bookmarks. * Help system - simply press F1 at any time. * Simple installation and removal. * Freeware, with no advertising or spyware.
I have uploaded three of the most recent configuration files that I have found posted in other threads. These are not my own lists so i take no credit for creating them.
How to setup WebMon to send updates to your e-mail or cell phone:
bmail alert with webmon Edit by Moderator: List link removed as it looks like hosting site has changed the file. Edit by Moderator: Please remember you are at risk of virus and spyware when using any offsite hosted files. Please make sure you take the appropriate precautions

btw, is OP Colin Markwell or related to him? I did a little Google search & this is a bit suspicious...but then again you can find the file at download.com, so it could be legit. Or maybe not...
great, just I want to do.. install some unknown active x control with a suspicious name so I can download a 5k file. Someone have the files on a server that isn't shady?

I have no affiliation with the creator of this web monitoring tool. I was told that since we can't talk about WebMon in the official PS3 thread that we could start a new thread in Computers. I figured we could use this to post updated configuration files as people find them so as to have all the latest links to possible PS3 pre-orders or pre-orders for other hot items such as the Nintendo Wii and Elmo TMX.

I can upload them somewhere else if you would like to direct me to a different file host. I didn't notice having to download any active x control and I'm using the latest version of FireFox.

you have to look at the source code of the website , find what your looking for and then do a start /stop on it...

You have to go in and manually add start and stop checks to each link. That way when it checks the site for an update it only looks at a specific portion of the web page. WebMon will show you the sites source code and you will just have to pick out the area you want to be monitored. The first config file called hottoys actually already had that done but these other two that someone posted earlier are just lists with no manual modifications.
Also, if someone else could suggest a good free file host or two i will re-upload the files for those of you that might be having problems. And if anyone else has a WebMon list they find then feel free to upload it and post a link to it.

Some basic HTML knowledge is required to configure WebMon...unless you can find files where people have already specified the start & stop text for you. Otherwise, right click on one of the objects. Say Amazon: 60gb PS3 for instance and choose "Modify." The "Modify Web Page" dialog will come up, click the "Specify content to check" button, and pick out your Start text and Stop text. Without having those start and stop points specified webmon is basically useless. The reason is a lot of web pages are dynamic so each time a page is loaded new banners ads etc come up so we need to focus our search to a static portion of the page. More specifically, a portion of the page that will be updated when the item is in stock. For instance, on Amazon one might choose start text at "Availability:" and stop text at the line break "<br />." Again, if you don't have basic HTML knowledge it's best to find a file that has preconfigured start/stop points.

If there a config file already that has the HTML modify edited, because the current file clicks every 2 seconds. I tried to do the html edit and am having trouble. Any help?
What are you guys using as the start & stop text for Target? This is the only one that gives me a false positive every single time if I don't specify a start/stop. It doesn't have any key phrases i.e. "Notify me" or "when back in stock" for me to use. Would using the beginning & end of this code work?

The file that i uploaded called "hottoys" doesn't have as many sites to check as the other two but it does have the start/stop checks added to each site. It would be nice if someone would be kind enough to post one that has most all the sites with added start/stop checks so that WebMon works like it should.

Does anyone have their webmon setup to search outpost/frys, Dell, or any other sites that we have not yet thought of?

Those sites would first have to list the PS3 on the site at a specific location in order for you to do that. You have to have a direct link to the item in order for WebMon to check to see if that page has been updated.

You have to have a direct link to the item in order for WebMon to check to see if that page has been updated. You're right, that's the best way of doing it. However, you can set it up to look at the search results for something like "playstation 3" and if that changes (like if they add the ps3 to their database), then it will alert.

I am kind of getting a late start on all this online ordering. Can someone help me with the start stop codes. I downloaded the latest list file and imported it into my webmon. It keeps going off so I deleted them. I have some old files for the TMX elmo that work great. I noticed they have a start and stop thread on them. Is there a place to download the newest list with the start and stop codes already there?
