AutoPatcher was served with a takedown notice by MS, and the dev complied. MS updates are only to be downloaded from MS servers. A great piece of timesaving software was lost today

I hope someone can re-engineer the program so it doesn't come with the patches, but you just download them separately and load them into autopatcher.

OMG!

Thanks for the heads-up...

Luckily there is still a way to do this. It doesn't compile the updates for you, you have to grab them once, but that's it - just once. Then burn them to a disk and you are set to update as many machines as you want.

CTUPdate

I know this is probably overkill for most people, but I find myself using MS WSUS services to perform all of my patching needs. It's a little more complicated to setup and configure for both workstation & server, but runs pretty smoothly once you have the procedure down. You can configure the server to download only the patches/updates for any MS products/OS as needed. I like the ability of setting up computer groups to selectively control the update/patch process. The reporting capability isn't too shabby either.

I have a VPC disk image of the WSUS server that I fire up once a week to download any new patches/updates from the MS server. When I am at the client site, I just start up the WSUS server on my laptop and point the target workstation's WUS config to the my server's IP. The updates stream down at LAN speed, useful for those clients who are still on dial-up and can't seem to get a broadband connection where they are located.

M$ sucks...... They are trying to eat up the entire network and be the only ones ppl can goto.......
