684 views and 20 GREEN! It looks like folks have found this thread - thanks for the 'Thanks'.
Regarding the discussion - the more I research, the more choices I discover. Initially, I expected to find ONE UNLOCKing HACK. But, there are several. Plus, there are OLD HACKS (tested on the MIO C310x), NEW HACKS (tested on the MIO C230), and plenty that I'm not sure about yet (still reading).
For those of you STILL READING (like me! ), I added a new UNLOCKing section to Quick Summary. It appears that a "favorite concept" over on the GPS Passion Forum is "Give a man a fish... Teach a man to fish...". Thus, there are MANY possible paths to take and one is left to do his own homework.
So, if you're following along with my research (AND, hopefully, doing some of your own), please post your opinions on the different UNLOCKing HACKs -
What UNIQUE features do they offer?
How STABLE are they?
How COMPLICATED are they to install?
etc...
For those of you who already installed something -
WHICH UNLOCKing HACK did you install?
WHY did you pick that one?
Is it STABLE?
Are you going to stick with it or switch to another?
etc...
Personally, I feel that the "How Do I..." questions belong over on the GPS Passion Forum (where the actual MIO Techies are and the MIO Community is MUCH bigger).
UPDATE #1: (08/22/08 @ 01:48)
51 views and NOT ONE GREEN!?! Gee Whizzigers... At least I *TRIED* to help the (new) Mio C320 Community out...
Created as a current (i.e. unarchived, updatable) location to add LINKs in Quick Summary since the Mio 310x thread is from 2006 and locked / archived.
I estimate that I'll be adding LINKs for the next 30 minutes or so, but, I have to save this OP as a way to begin the process...
ok question, can anyone tell me the correct mini to usb cable I need. 4 pin or 5?
plus can anyone explain why my thread was left empty and ignored though posted earlier? but I deleted mine and am consolidating my info into this thread.
FrugalFreak said: ok question, can anyone tell me the correct mini to usb cable I need. 4 pin or 5? I counted and there are 5 pins... and I'm using one right now
FrugalFreak said: the max SD size is 8GB SD card They say Transcend & Ridata 16GB SDHC works too. Link
Second this....can any one give clear instructions on getting iGo8 installed on a Mio c320 with SDHC card. Already have Mio 3.3 with TTS working.....thanks!

Added some "Discussion Starter" questions to the OP.
Personal Request: PLEASE don't QUOTE *ENTIRE* posts when you reply - only QUOTE the portion that your reply addresses. It keeps the thread neater and to-the-point for both reading and printing out. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Got in on the deal for the Mio C320. Is it possible to load TomTom Navcore 8 on the mio c320? I know that the Tomtom 7 works. And saw it posted on other sites that you need to load NavCore 8 First and then the Navcore 8 upgrade software (with the really neat features). I just have not seen it posted anywhere if you can Put Navcore 8 on a C320. Anyone? Thanks
Transcend 16 GBSDHC works well with the C320 that I bought last week from Amazon.com. Was able to put TTS on it too. Now wiating for the free 2008 map update dvd from Mio. Will eventually unlock the device for map updates.
The only think I don't like is the audio player is not easily accessable fom the map interface, in order to access the audio player, you need to exit out of the mio maps completely.
Here are some very simple elegant unlocks based on the Simple Unlock. There are five versions and they can all be found at http://www.renaultarea.tk/. I have set up two C320s with version 3.0 of the unlock and installed Igo8 as described on the Simple Unlock page and they have been running great. I was running MioPocket 2.0 but found it to be a liitle to busy and unstable.
I've attached a few images of the unlocks. Follow the link to see them all. There are also a few nice skins for version 1 of the unlock.
There was a lot of discussion about new maps being released in June or July of this year, and then nothing. Has anybody heard anything new on this front? Should I be calling Mio yet about this? My maps on my C310x are really in need of updating.

I would shoot myself if I ever got loss. This hacking things is fun too.
I agree, I got the C320 for my wife and have come to hate the Garmin I use. The C320 is a much more versatile device and the hacking is easy. I find the Garmin very limiting especially with route planning.

When I hear ppl complain about the hassle of hacking I know for sure they haven't investigated how easy it is to copy some files back & forth!
Essentially, hacking for WinCE is moving files between folders. My tools of the trade: CTR-X, CTR-C, CTR-V. Haha.

I,m running Mipocket2. The unlock you are running really shouldn't matter as long as you get Igo installed correctly. I have run the same version of Igo with a few different unlocks and it has run in them all including TTS. There are a few newer versions also and much information can be found on the thread if you want to try any of them. If you are looking for a simple wife friendly unlock I definitely recommend xtler92"s many offerings and you may want to give one a try.
Scroll down the page about until you see this section(about a 25% of the way down after all the unlocks). I have removed the download links as I don't want to get in any hot water here at FW. All the necessary files will be linked in the thread
1. Download the March 2nd or March 10th version of Igo8 posted below. This will be the base version since they are both full PNA versions. Unrar it to your desktop.
Version 8.3.2 (March 10th) Here is a full version of Igo8 8.3.2 March 10th with all the .dll's, TTS, etc included... as well as the extra folder for the poi sign icons.
Version 8.3.2 (March 2nd) This is from my Mio devices. It's updated with the latest 8.3.2 Igo8.exe (March 2nd). Has all the needed files and .dll's for TTS for both CE 5.0 (like the c320 or c520) and CE 4.2 (like the c310 and h610). This is a full copy, minus the maps, dem, and poi files. I am currently running it on my devices. Some bugs still remain in this version, like the wake-up bug and the off road bug. People with CE 4.2 devices won't notice these bugs as much as CE 5.0 device owners. As I said, this version is complete with TTS all good to go. I also included Xerses's color schemes and DiMka's Megaduck99 skin with this version. I love that skin. You'll have to change the color schemes and the skin in the Igo8 menu to get them to work. As is, it will start with the default skin and default color schemes (until you change them in the Igo8 menu) Enjoy!!!
2. Delete the iGO8.exe and License folder from the March 2nd or March 10th release. You can do this just by opening the iGO8 folder that was unrared on your desktop and then just right click on them and delete them... also, if there is a Save folder delete that as well (if there is no save folder don't worry about it)
3. Cut the iGO8 folder off your desktop and paste it onto your SD card.
4. Download the current PNA version of iGO8 (in this case the June 25th version).
5. Unrar it onto your desktop.
6. Copy the iGO8.exe from the June 25th version (or the latest PNA version) and paste it in the iGO8 folder on your SD card.
7. Copy the License folder from the June 25th (or the latest PNA version) and paste it in the iGO8 folder on your SD card.
8. You know have the latest full version of iGO8.
You will want to add maps.... the maps will go in the specific folder located in the Content folder in the iGO8 folder.
Maps (.fbl files) go in the Map folder Buildings (.3dl and .3dc files) go in the Building folder Points of Interest (.poi files) go in the POI folder Dem's (.dem files) go in the Dem folder
It's as simple as that. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion from the post below. Please take your time and follow the directions before asking questions.
This is a really interesting and useful thread. I've got a few questions and suggestions:
1) Are the newer Moov model Mios hackable or just the older ones?
2) Can one download free map updates for this Mio, too?
Suggestions:
1) Could you post a quick one-paragraph summary in the original post that explains what kind of hacks are out there, aside from just new skins? For instance, one of the hacks adds adds text to speach capability to this GPS, including street names, and adds a lot more POI's, doesn't it? The post is great for people who already own a Mio but doesn't give enough info to someone, like me, who is researching GPS units and wants to find out more about the Mio ones and what one can do with one.
