Trying to decide on a netbook and with the recent deals, I wa thinking of the 1000H. But I really want something lighter so I am also considering the 901, and the AA1. Was looking for pros and cons to help with choice.
Suprisingly the 901 seems more expensive then the 1000H and I am aware that it uses <20gb SSD drive vs the 80/160gb 1000H
I am also thinking about getting eeePC. I am currently leaning toward 1000H, for price and versatility.
Thanks for your response. I am surprised the 901 has remained pricier than the 1000H It's all because of the solid state drive.
But several comparisons seem to indicate that the 1000H with regular drive is about the same speed, or slightly faster than 901 (or 1000) with SSD.
That, and I worry about long-term reliability of SSD (100,000 per sector write vs. proven HDD technology), so that's why I lean toward 1000H. I know it's a little noisier, heavier, and not as good battery life, but who knows, maybe I can swap the regular drive with SSD SATA drive in future for much cheaper price than now, when the SSD technology is more matured.

I highly recommend going to look at the differences physically between a 901 vs the 1000h if that is at all possible. I tested out a 901 and found the keyboard to be too small for me. I have yet to try any of the other netbooks due to lack of availability in my area... But regardless, if you go with the smaller one, I would make sure you order from a place that has a decent return policy. Good luck.

I have been looking at these too.I think among EEEPC901,EEEPC1000H and Acer Aspire one with HD is the best.I had EEEpc 900 with 16G ssd for a while and installed XP on it ,it was terribly slow with xp.Now I have Acer Aspire one 160GB HD and 6 cell battery on order from Amazon and should be getting shortly. One bad thing with acer aspire one is that it is very hard to upgrade memory which is very easy with EEEPC.Also acer can be upgraded upto 1.5 GB max while EEE to 2GB max.
As the OP I figured Id update. I ended up going with the 1000H from eBay via excaliburpc and live 30%. My reasons were primarily the 6 cell, battery is more flush, the integrated bluetooth, the slightly bigger screen and most importantly the threads I have read how people love this thing. I like the fact that you have a color variety on the AA1 and that it is a little lighter (not by much with the 6 cell) however not enough to sway me.
Also want to mention that there is also now a 1000HA retailing for $429 preorder. It may lack bluetooth and probably lacks wireless n but these are unconfirmed, and there is conflicting specs. The 1000HA is available in White and Black.

I have some money in PayPal account from previous live 30%, so it worked out well.

I have 900 16 G model with linux for over a month. It is small and light but after I installed xp on it even with memory upgrade to 2 gb it is awefuuly slow especially when I install programs on it.It has Celeron900 mhz processor. Two days ago I received eeepc1000H 160 gb hd which I ordered after waiting for one month for AA one on preorder from Amazon. It is relatively heavier and larger.Weight is 50% more(3.2 lbs vs 2.1) and 2 inches wider, but it also has 6 cell battery,xp home and blue tooth and Atom 1.6 processor.Screen is 1.3 inches larger(10.2 vs 8.9 inches). It is faster than my 15" Dell Inspiron 6400.I am very impressed with machine.Among other versions of thi model EEEpc 1000Ha lacks blue tooth and wireless N and is $30 cheaper , while 1000HD has Linux instead of xp 80 gb hd is 100 dollars cheaper.
I got mine yesterday. I immediately upgraded the RAM to 2GB.
I was surprised how quickly XP loads up. Nonetheless, I couldn't stand using XP at that resolution, so I replaced it with Ubuntu eee. It takes a little longer to load now, but I think it makes better use of the limited screen space than XP.
So far, I like it a lot. It'll serve my purpose well (browing, email, Skype, messaging, music, and video). For anything else, I have my desktop.
One thing that everyone's been complaining about it is the location and size of right shift key. Unfortunately, I have to agree that it stinks. On the up side, that's the only thing I can really complain about it so far.
