I got this NAS server a year and half ago from this FW deal.

I upgraded the firmware to 1.03 right after I got it and have not done much ever since. Recently I need to move some big files between two shared the folders and moving through the SMB shares was really painful so I finally decided to hack the root access pointed by trs23 in the same thread. It worked like a charm and moving files around with root telnet access is a zap.

Now I would like to upgrade my firmware to the latest 1.05. However I am not sure if the firmware upgrade will reset the root password to a factory default (unknown to me)? Can someone here share your experience?

Thanks you,
jerry

Anybody care to share the info? Thanks a lot!

Please help! Anybody know if it is safe to upgrade firmware after root/shell hack? I changed the root password on firmware R3 using the web exploit.

Thank you, thank you! I could not afford the remote chance to loose the root password during a firmware upgrade.

going to be hard pressed to have anyone answer you if they themselves (like me) dont have/use the products ourselves...
Have you contacted the manufacturers tech support or forum on their website and posted the question directly to them for an answer?

here is the link right to their e-support https://support.promise.com/
