Hi - I posted this question at SD, but thought it would also be a good idea to ask here:

I'm trying to decide between the Acer 1810T 11.1" or 3810T 13.3" for use as my primary work notebook. (Both laptops are versions with the SU7300 processor) I work in IT and am in the field almost every day - so size, weight and battery life are important, but also is being able to efficiently perform my tasks with minimal window switching and resizing, as well as having enough horsepower to run my apps smoothly.

My typical simultaneous application load would be -
Outlook - pretty large local Exchange cache, plus a couple pst's
2 to 5 remote sessions to various servers & workstations
CRM session
Several Word, Excel, OneNote or Acrobat documents open
a chat client or two
Lots of browser windows
A active VM or two for testing, etc.

I notice the 3810 and 1810 both have screen resolutions of 1366x768 - would that mitigate the benefit somewhat of the extra 2.2" diagonal on the 13.3" LCD? The goal would be to have enough screen real estate to have a remote session and a white paper or KB in side-by-side windows and have readable text.

My current laptop is a lenove X61T. Almost never use the tablet features, the square display and resolution make for constant window switching, and weight/battery life is poor for the form factor. Performance is fine for my needs, though (C2D L7500)

Thanks in advance for your comments!

I know how the X61 battery sucks...especially the standard battery...luckily I only have one for support reasons and not a daily machine. I would also take into consideration the keyboard size...and go with the biggest.

The one thing I don't like about the X61 is the low resolution possible. Can't even fit a short SQL query on the screen without scrolling

You're going to be really limited by that resolution. You'll just about have room for one document comfortably - 2 side by side will really be pushing it. The screen size will have no impact on that, other than the text will be slightly larger. I also work in IT & unless your funds are really limited, I'd highly recommend a Dell Latutude or a Lenovo T series. Both of these will have actual USABLE screen resolution rather than an HD TV panel slapped onto a laptop chassis. If you want to have 2 side by side windows, you'll ideally want a 1680x1050 panel if you can get it.
