I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with XP Home. It has a built in webcam.

I'm wondering if I can just turn on the webcam and capture video? I don't see any programs under "Start --> Programs" that show any installed program to do this.

Do I need a program, or should the netbook just have something that will do this?

If a program is needed, is there a FREE one that would work?

Thank you.

Windows movie maker should work. If not already installed, it is available free from Microsoft.

Thank you. I went to Microsoft's website and read the info on Movie Maker and it sounds like you can transfer your videos to your pc and then use this program. It doesn't appear to use a webcam.

To record video from a webcam:
NCH debut free is one program http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/

VLC media player (free and GPL licensed) can also, some instructions are here:
VLC instructions
VLC

In windows movie maker, all you have to do is choose "Capture Video", then choose your device to record a video using your web cam. Tested it out on my MSI Wind netbook

Thank you. I tried out the http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/ software and it works great. Might download the Movie Maker softeware and try that one too.

Thanks again!

I have an Acer Aspire One as well. Downloaded the nchsoftware as well..works great!
