I want to make a tar archive, but I want to know how big the file is going to be before it actually makes the archive. Anyone know how I can do that?

A tar archive by default would be the same size as the files you are putting into it. Unless you are compressing the file. If you are compressing then it will vary depending on what type of files you are compressing.
