Ok, here's my issue. We recently redid our family room, hung the big screen on the wall, built some built ins, etc. However, the cable box is too big for the shelves of the built ins. The only option is to put the cable box into the cabinets below the shelving, which have solid doors.

Is there some way to transmit a signal to the cable box remotely? A smaller receiver to receive the signals from the remote, which then transmits the signal to the cable box? Doesn't matter if that solution is wired or wireless. Is it possible?

Our current solution is to open the cabinets when we want to watch TV, and I'm too lazy to open them every time, so I leave them open, which upsets my wife, who closes them, which upsets me

Cut the panels out and install glass.

Ask the cable company if they have a smaller box.

Divorce the wife.
Then again, it might be cheaper to get an RF remote or extender. RF remotes don't require line of site. They operate on radio frequencies which can pass through solid objects, but will require you to put a receiver next to your cable box.

RadioShack use to sell this thing that would allow you to use remote behind closed doors. You pu a transmitter on the inside, right infront of the cable box. And a small recover on the outside. They are connected by a small wire

This remote does what you are looking for.

I don't think it does. It does not appear to be compatible with the Logitech Harmony RF Wireless Extender, which you would also need. Looks like you would need a Logitech® Harmony® 1000 or 890 Advanced Universal Remote to work with the extender. If you search, I believe you will find less expensive alternatives.

This is what you need.

Thanks all for your help! In a few days, my solution will arrive from Amazon and hopefully save my marriage!

In the past I have seen two solutions for this. One kit has two transponders. You use your regular remote point it to one transponder with converts the signal to RF and sends it to the other unit. The other unit converts the signal back to IR and send it to the box. The other kit I saw had one transponder and a universal RF remote. You use the remote which sends the signal to the transponder which converts to IR.

i saw a youtube vid of some guy using a box hooked up to the cable box and the wireless transmitter is inside a battery you put in your remote control

Just an update. I am the OP. I bought this from Amazon and it works perfectly. The cabinet doors are closed now and everything is looking great!
